Wow, love your home. Would have never guessed it's a rental. It's hip but also very homey. Love the little sewing nook. We also have a son named Finn. Lots of good choices on your part !

I live in Portland as well. Love your house so much, it hurts. Our style is very similar, love the mix of rustic and quirky, with splashes of color. The kitchen and dining are my favorite parts, they're gorgeous. I hope one day my place can look halfway as good as yours. Thanks for the tour !

I really like the Kittie Franz quote regarding children being human beings, not inconveniences. I have a 7 1/2 month old, and realize that parenting doesn't end when it's nighttime. Yep, I'm part of the Attachment Parenting Brigade ! 67% of the world sleeps with their babies, so I know I'm not alone, at least not on a global scale. Your baby is just 4 months old. She is still developing in so many ways, and is crying because she needs something, probably just you. I would suggest continuing co-sleeping and nursing, it's a great way for you to get some shut eye while also keeping your baby (and neighbors!) happy.

amazing. baked off my first batch this morning. too perfect for words. worth the cost and effort (and calories!) for sure. they look just like the photos, and taste even better. this will undoubtedly become my staple chocolate chip cookie recipe.

I just got this about a week ago for my birthday. Love it. So far, I've already made Guinness Milk Chocolate, Toasted Almond & Candied Cherry w/Fudge Ripple, Parsley as well as Fig Ice Cream. Very easy to use, although it is quite loud. I recommend puchasing the book The Perfect Scoop, by David Lebovitz. Have fun !

I understand your frustration. I'm in the same boat. We live next to a retired, elderly couple and a very self important woman who we have been struggling with since we moved in. I enjoy trying to grow plants in the backyard, but I feel every time I go out back to putter around, either annoying neighbor is right there, either to offer their opinion as to what I'm doing, or just stare. Some of their comments have been downright rude and judgemental, I guess in an attempt to give me gardening advise, life coaching, etc.

We rent, so a privacy fence is not an option. We did, however, attach sheets of bambo to the rails of the deck for some privacy. It looks shiteous, but it does the trick. We are fans of the window film as well. I am a friendly, warm person, but I have succumbed to being standoffish. That may be the best barrier, I have found.

i'm growing lots of tomatoes. never having tried gardening before, i just stuck them in the ground a few months ago, without preparing any sort of real caging. now they're 4 feet tall at least, and are taking over my little raised bed. lots of green fruit are awaiting ripening, some cherry and heirloom varieties. i also planted carrot and radish seeds last week. the radishes germinated in a matter of days, while the carrots are showing no sign of life. it's all exciting though, and i'll continue experimenting and learning, despite the "why not just buy it from the farmers market?" question i get asked daily from family/friends.

jessica here....eee...found out we cannot paint. at least not for a while, until we can convince the owner otherwise. so, the colors you see are what we have to work with. my partner and i have been trying to brainstorm a way to change the hues of the walls without actually making a permanent transformation. i thought about some kind of contact paper, but am not sure if it would end up looking cheap. the walls in the dining room are actually wallpaper, while in the den they are simply a very dark green paint. yikes..!

i have to agree, the kitchen doesn't look small at all ! it certainly is great looking though. i LOVE the orange, and it just looks so clean and well organized. i'm highly highly jealous.

i really really love the first photo. the colors...the plants...i just think the other two photos are on the dark side. you have some amazing furniture, and having two dogs and two cats myself, i really love that your apartment is bustling with animal energy ! i identify so much with your apartment and think it looks amazing. you should be proud.

really lovely. i like the subtle color and pattern use. it looks good but also very liveable. it's nice to see a home that actually looks like a place you can imagine yourself cooking, reading, hanging out, etc., as opposed to a showroom. kudos to you !!!
