Dill is lovely paired with salmon, and mashed potatoes.

These don't exactly belong in the cupboard, but what about basil and mint? With so many varieties, they're my favorite herbs for the summer, although I wish I can keep my basil plant alive for more than a few months...

That looks delish- can I substitute kale in place of the chard? I've got a bunch of kale I need to use up soon!

I'd love some help from seasoned cooks/hosts! Not really a traditional turkey dinner question, but we are hosting a Thanksgiving day get together with some friends and I'm wondering if my menu is ok. Since nobody wants to eat leftover turkey for the entire month of December, here's what I have so far for 8 adults and 2 kids.

Mains
prime rib roast, roast chicken

Sides
Pasta tossed with garlic, tomatoes, olive oil, basil
Roasted veges
Roasted herbed potatoes

Hors d'oeuvres
Olives
Proscuitto Melon
Roasted pepper dip w/ baguette

Dessert
Banana Cream Pie
Panna Cotta w/ balsamic strawberries

One of our friends will also bring a side dish (not sure what it is at the moment).

Anything I should add/ change?

P.S. I'm not a very seasoned host- cooking for a crowd makes me stressed!

We hit the farmers' market every week and I buy broccoli, fresh tomatoes, winter melon, baby bok choy, carrots. And whatever fruit I'm craving or in season that I like. Meats and seafood I usually buy at the supermarkets on the way home from work.

I have the Perspective bed frame from Room & Board, and let me tell you if you want to watch TV in bed while propping yourself up it's very hard to have bed frames that are essentially a hole and not a solid piece of board. Even with pillows they just sort of sink through and then your head hits the top bar in an awkward position.

The above sentiment is only for watching TV in bed, for actual sleeping there is no difference to me whether it's a metal or wood frame, as long as it doesn't collapse in the middle of the night!

So what color should I paint my west facing room? It does take on a warm orange red cast in the late afternoons!

Domino for sure- we just moved into a new place and I have gone over the issues a million times looking for different things...

Dwell- Can't bear to junk these, even though 95% of the ideas ad products we can't afford!

Other magazines I keep- Real Simple, Sunset, Self. 2 months before we moved I cut out all the pages I wanted from over 4 years of Self ad filed them in a 3-ring binder.
I also have a few issues of now-defunct Weekend and Blueprint.

I agree with dM- that's exactly what I think about when I see some of the decor featured on AT, fabulous they might be. Don't these people have any dust in their homes?? *is jealous*

My favorite slow cooker meal is my mother's Five Spice Chinese Braised Pork. I use her homemade 5 spice powder mix (store bought ones usually have too much cinnamon for my taste), dark soy sauce, white pepper, and a dash of sesame oil to marinade the pork (usually a boneless pork shoulder or a few hunks of pork knuckles). Then add in a cup of dashi stock and let it cook away for the day. To further stretch the meal I also add in about 8 hard boiled eggs the next day to make braised eggs. They absorb all the flavor from the fat and marinade sauce that cooked the meat. I know it's a lot of work but a pot like this would last me a whole week.

Man I am so hungry now!

I love the concept but all that rust just seems a little too icky for me... now that kitchen, on the other hand, is just breathtaking!

It works in the picture above, but seriously how many of us live like that (I wish!)?? Regardless of which era it originates, I cannot live with a lumpy sofa. Lumpy sofas remind me of lumps of fat and I don't want to be reminded of lumps of fat..give me the taut buttercream lambskin leather any day...

My favorite summer nosh this year has been an apple (red for sweeter or green for more tart preference) salad with lots of basil leaves, chopped almonds, with a splash of apple cider vinegar & honey dressing. It makes a quick, refreshing and easy side dish, or could be made into a main course salad with the addition of some cubed/ shredded roast chicken meat.

IMHO...when it's clean it looks super, but when it's been used for a while and the mildew starts to spawn...*dies*

I don't know your zip code so I can't tell what the shipping charges would be, but what about this one from CB2?

Just my humble opinion- I would not buy any major furniture from IKEA without seeing it in real life. While I love IKEA, a lot of their stuff photographs much more beautifully then they really are.

I have a question. How accurate are the shows on HGTV in portraying the work process between interior designers and their clients in real life? Most of the shows seem to portray the hosts presenting their designs to the clients without actually involving them in the process, is that how it is typically done when one hires an interior designer?
