Btw - she didn't say there was anything wrong with having the 15 items. It's an exercise to take a fresh look at your living space. I like my stuff but I also know I have stuff that I don't use that I should give away or sell. I see nothing wrong with giving away a family heirloom that doesn't have an emotional hold on you. I hate my grandmothers china. My sister loves it so she has it even though Granny wanted me to have it. Instead I have her cast iron skillets, earthenware dishes, and recipe box. I have warm memories of her when I cook with them and eat on my own Fiestaware. I don't need her china for that.

I don't understand what everyone is so upset about. I found nothing condescending about this article and I have TV's and a sofa and family heirlooms. It's an opinion piece. I think these comments are way more judgmental than the article. Y'all are mean.

I actually prefer a small cozy kitchen. As long as the appliances work and there's a dishwasher (besides me:)) I'm happy. Every time I'm in my mom and her partner's run down dated country kitchen I feel so happy. I love to smell the cornbread and mustard greens cooked in the fancy goose fat that I gave them.

Be careful grinding your own chickpea flour. You need an exceptional blender/food processor - think vitamix. I destroyed a cuisinart food processor trying to make chick pea flour. Mine was only a couple of years old too. If you don't have access to a ethnic grocery or wholefoods amazon sells it as well.

You can also make DELICIOUS fritters and fries with chickpea flour. Dust with Parmesan. Delish!

Wow. What an amazing use of space in a truly small kitchen. You get bonus points for being half the size of most othe "small" kitchens

I like the cabinets. I personally dislike white/beige kitchens. This is one of the only truly small kitchens in this contest. I think it's a great use of space

If I'm really sick- vomiting fever etc I am so not worried about house keeping. Now if I just feel miserable with a bad cold and am still working I will just do the minimum of picking up after myself. Those of you that find time to wash dishes, sweep, clean the kitchen etc while sick, well I guess you are better people than me. I'm worthless if I have fever or vomiting. Luckily I don't get sick like that very often and when I do it's only a day or two.

That being said when I am really sick I keep a trash can by the bed for Kleenex or anything else and a water glass for liquids. There usually aren't dirty dishes because I don't feel like eating. When I'm up and moving but still feel terrible I just nuke some soup and throw my dishes in the sink or dishwasher if it's empty.

It's silly to feel bad about a messy house when you're sick
