I've had really good luck with the Malm dresser line from IKEA. Smooth tracks, no sag, have made it through 3 moves and 4 years and are still going strong. Only issue is the veneer will pull up if they get wet, so use a coaster.

I've had really good luck sprinkling baking soda and then rubbing it in with the cut side of a lemon. Really cuts the grease, and then regular soap and water will take care of any residue.

I cover my hair, because I hate getting dust in my hair. Other than that, I try to remember to wear grubby clothes so I don't ruin anything nice.

All clothes are washed cold, but I wash my bedding in hot, as recommended by my allergist to kill dust mites.

We had one of these growing up (1930s Craftsman) and all of us kids learned pretty quickly to stay off of it. He probably learned his lesson and won't step on it again.

We're eating less meat, and cooking more from bulk staples (beans, rice, quinoa, bulgar). I'm also learning how to can and make jam so our CSA bounty doesn't get wasted.

Do. Not. withhold rent over this. The laws on withholding rent vary based on the state you're in, but in general, they only apply to non-livable situations. Not liking how your neighbor keeps their half of a shared garage is not a non-livable situation. Withholding rent will just get you evicted.

Also, many disabled people can and do walk perfectly fine, so the fact your neighbor can walk doesn't mean she's not disabled.

The recycled TP from Trader Joes is perfectly nice. Target's store brand is some percentage under 50% recycled, and is also just fine. I'm of the opinion that no one's ass is special enough for forests to be cut down over. My boyfriend still insists on the fancy 2-ply stuff though...

In other news, some brand is advertising 3-ply toilet paper now. I have never heard of something so offensively wasteful before.

What about a senior housing complex or something like that? Seems like the type of thing that would actually be useful, rather than junk, for someone with arthritis.

If you have some heavy paper, you can make framed or window ornaments. Cut the same shape out of a double thickness of heavy paper (I like the shape of a classic round ornament with points at the top and bottom) and cut out a window in the center of the top piece. Sandwich either a coordinating piece of decorative paper or a photograph or something pretty from a magazine in the window with a glue stick, add a hanging ribbon, and voila! ornament.

The big pumpkins sold for decoration are actually pretty crappy for pies. :( You'd want a little sugar pumpkin to make a pie with. Roasting the seeds is fun, easy, and tasty though.

My cat is too weird about what she will and won't scratch that I couldn't risk a fancy scratcher that would go to waste. Right now she's liking the ones from Ikea, which is great as they're super cheap.

I wish I could have my kitty in my bed, but the boyfriend is too allergic. We have a baby gate up to keep her out of the bedroom, since at 13 she's too old to jump it. Before he came around, she always slept in my bed. Usually it was cute, but occasionally I didn't want my 3am headbutt.

My cat's favorite toy is a drawstring out of an old pair of sweatpants. It's too wide for her to eat, so I don't have to worry about it like I would smaller string. (She's also never even tried to eat anything that wasn't food. I know I'm lucky in that regard.) Next best toy is one of those bendy sticks with feathers on the end.

I make it a point to touch my cat's paws regularly, so she doesn't associate paw touching with nail trimming. She hates the trimming, but pretty much sits still and waits for her treats after wards. I'm lucky to have a small, chill cat though.

Mrs. Mack - I've always found that poodle mixes shed the least, and have hair that is more hair like and less fur like.

I've been wondering about green ways to get rid of fleas. A friend recommending sprinkling Borax on the carpet (and then vacuuming after a day or so) to kill flea eggs, but is that safe to do around my cat?

I'm also curious whether other cat owners use things like Soft Paws and what they think of them. I mainly just keep my cat's claws trimmed and it's fine, but occasionally some extra blunting would be nice.

I like to click through to the profiles of negative reviews and see what their other reviews are like. If they hate everything, I pretty much disregard their review. If they have a decent range of other reviews that seem reasonable, I take their review more seriously. There is definitely a contingency of yelpers who only give 1s and 5s, and their opinions are pretty useless in my opinion.
