Virginia- the top is plastic, not metal. I imagine she discarded it and opted for a plywood seat because the foam would adhere better (the plastic seat is contoured, not flat) and she could stable the fabric on easily. Before & After: DIY Mongolian Lamb StoolPreciously Me |

@moke076 Nope. Tile work is quite expensive- the labor is easily over $10/sf and more if it's a tricky installation. Another way to think of it- say his labor rate was $25/hour, that would be two people for a full week. From Budget to Blowout: Imagining 3 Renovation Scenarios For a Tiny Kitchen The New York Times |

Diny: they answer that question in the comments of the original post on their blog: "We actually keep our bedside stuff (cell phone, alarm clock, jewelry, contact case) inside each of our wardrobes on a shelf that’s around the height of a side table- which is still easily reached from bed. We just slip our hands behind the curtain and grab whatever we need… and it’s easy and clean-looking since it’s all out of sight. Hope it helps!" Sigh. Please get your facts correct. From the EPA website. "It’s not entirely correct to say "CFLs will be required" or “incandescents will be phased out” because the standards set by the bill are technology neutral, and by 2012, a next generation of incandescent bulbs could satisfy the 30% increased efficiency.
