bamboo is all the rage and 'green' so to say. but so is cork. got to your local design store...i think in emeryville its 'home expo' or 'design expo'...whatevah...check out the cork flooring. its clean, simple, SUPER easy to install and affordable. plus it requires no long term commitment. you can install it as a 'floating floor' over your existing pergo...or what-have-ya...
its a vast improvement, and simple enough for a handy do-it-yourself-er, plus if you move out in a year and your landlord disapproves, then it can be taken out quicker than it was put in! (luckily my landlord ended up paying for the improvement, instead of making me tear it out)

branch on the wall? i say toss it...
you've got a great wall...to great to waste it on a branch...make something out of it...and i don't just mean paint it or strip and shellac it...please...

I can relate to being a pack rat of sorts and knowing where each and every item came from and usually having a pretty good story behind it, but i more than agree with Palmetto, in that some editing of 'stuff' should happen here. Store 2/3's of your stuff and rotate it out. There is just WAY too much going on here. The floors are beautiful but they're covered w/ nappy rugs on top of more rugs, what's up w/ that? I think 50 pictures of visual clutter were more than sufficient w/o going the extra yard and adding 3 of your cat...
