@Trollopian: Yeah, I noticed that too. Maybe they're all form California or Florida or someplace like that?

@anytown -- Me. Well, ok, three pairs. Sandles (everyday wear when it's warm enough), Hiking Boots (when it's not sandle weather) and dress shoes (rarely worn, kept in my closet. )Oh, and a pair of fuzzy slippers. So I guess that's four pairs, not two. Nevermind.

For me, the category of "what I like" is much broader than "what's me & I'd want to live in". For my own home, I prefer warm colors, open/visible storage, etc. But I still like this house-tour a lot.

And I disagree that it looks like an impersonal showroom. Sure, I can recognize most of the IKEA pieces, but so what? I think a lot of personality comes through, in an understated way, in the way they decorated. It doesn't look "generic" to me at all. And the decor puts more focus on the *people* in the space than it does on the *objects* in the space or the space itself. Nothing impersonal about that!

@RURAL AND RUEFU looks like they can close the window-curtains fine -- just closed, they would be between the wall-lamps rather than on the outside edges. (Wouldn't surprise me if there are four panels, so they can have two between the lamps and two outside them when the curtains are closed)

Hard to say without knowing how big the sofa/table/TV are relative to the walls -- can't tell what would fit where. Can you add some measurements to show how long the various wall-segments are?

You've said what you think. You've said what your husband thinks. You've asked AT what we think.

It seems like the only ones you haven't asked are the ones who will be most impacted by the decision. =^/

Good luck with the stud finder, if you have plaster walls -- as I found out the hard way =^p.

Otherwise, good list =^).

Wow. The comments on AT are getting to be as vicious as the comments in certain other corners of the web. Sad.

(And for those of us who live in cooler climates, particularly in older buildings, getting anything *other* than an in-window unit can be prohibitively expensive, especially when you only need to turn the thing on a dozen non-consecutive days a year -- but those few days, you're really, really glad you have it. But that's neither here nor there; my comment about the comments would hold regardless.)

OP says "Rugs are currently priced from $699 for a 2'4" x 5'3" rug to $4,099 for a 7'4" x 11' rug", but when I click on the link I see prices ranging from an outlying $800 too $12,700

US time and other measurements are so archaic for the same reason that most people still use a QWERTY keyboard.

@ PATRICK (THE OTHER ONE) -- it condemns EVERYONE, including the OP and her boyfriend who want to post it. Anyone who sees it is going to know it's intended ironically.

Have you ever SEEN a chick tract? they are bloody hilarious.

Yes, yes, I know, they say that I and everyone I've ever met (and everyone in the world except for about ten people) are going to be thrown in a lake of fire for all eternity, yada, yada. People don't collect Chick Tracks because they can tolerate the message. They collect them for the irony of the fat that they are so over-the-top that they actually give the opposite message than what they intend.

I do sometimes feel guilty laughing at the crazy person. But when the crazy person won't stop ranting about how I'm a devil worshiper who's going to burn in hell for eternity and uses these bloody hilarious things to try to prove it -- well, it's hard not to laugh.

Chick's bile is directed at EVERYBODY. Which (ironically) makes it less offensive than if it were directed at just one or two groups. We're ALL targets, so we can all laugh.

It's not snow that concerns me -- it's frost heaves (heck, I've driven on the *interstate* when it was completely washboarded by frost heaves) in late winter/early spring, and instability from mud giving way underneath it later in the spring (which I've also seen happen to lightly paved roads.)

They may have a solution that doesn't involve re-doing the driveway/road every year. But you clearly can't groom these the way they do dirt roads near the end of mud season, and I don't see how it can have even as much stability as cheap, old-fashioned asphalt.

I'm not dissing them. The climate concerns that come to mind immediately for me are irrelevant many other places. And they may work better in the nawthc'ntry than I'm imagining they would.

But I can't help wondering what this pavement would look like at the start of summer, and what would be involved in repairing it.

@TRAVELINGRAE -- I'm having a hard time imagining how 125 square feet could be configured to have a "study" and a "dressing room". I don't think even the cleverly designed 120 sq foot Tumbleweed houses have that (heck, I don't have either of those, and we live in a full 800 square feet!). Unless the "125" is a typo, I'm very curious to know how your space is laid out.

Somehow I suspect the frost heaves on those would be horrible. Any case studies of their use in places that have four seasons?
