Yes, this is an office. It is one of many kinds of offices, depending on the work you do.

Douglas is a designer, and he obviously designed this *particular* office for *particular* professions. To assume that this office isn't an office because it doesn't fit with your conception of what an office should be (or the *particular* professions you have in mind), is a little presumptuous; adding the insults merely makes the opinion arrogant and contemptuous. Not at all a dialogue about understanding, but rather confirming one's own biases.

This could easily be a psychotherapy office, able to see individuals, couples, and groups.

It is, by introduction, utilizing the latest technology, which probably means wi-fi, cloud storage, and lighter technology (say, a tablet versus a laptop).

This designer had the foresight to design according to technology trends, and for the needs of particular professions. And as is often the experience of those who look ahead, they are ridiculed by those who do not see as far.

For those who wrote their disparaging comments five years ago, I suppose the popularity of iPads and cloud storage in the present day might make you think twice about pooh-poohing an idea you don't understand rather than approaching with curiosity.

The blue in the After certainly pops. Not sure I like it, but I'm sure the people who did it enjoy it!

The stenciled forest bedroom is...dreamy. Love it!

Hi Lorin,

Thanks for sharing your home--it's a delight to see how you've bloomed where you were planted and made this space wholly yours.

I don't find it cluttered at all--I find it cozy and comforting, which is something I rarely say about minimalist designs (which I also enjoy, for different reasons).

Anyway, this comment is about your design and use of space, not just about my likes, quirks, etc. And I want to say, you've made a beautiful home--and I can't wait to see your new one! (Won't it be nice to have all your furniture back?)

Take care,

I.

I think leather is beautiful but microfiber is definitely more cruelty-free, but I've arrived at a compromise:

Buy vintage leather furniture.

1) It's beautiful (by vintage I mean it's well-made, not junky).

2) It's a reuse-reduce-recycle thing. No new cows getting slaughtered, no filling of landfills, etc.

3) Its beauty is in its distressed, vintage look. So if it gets more distressed, no problem! If it doesn't get more distressed, no problem!

These are just breathtakingly gorgeous bathrooms. The use of the marine paint is a great idea, plus the light color unobtrusively anchors (no pun intended) the room.

Such rich, beautiful colors. It looks like a wonderful place to curl up and read, talk with a good friend, and take naps!

The contrast of the day and night shot is so cool! I love the spaciousness in what could have been a cramped location.

The Cloud Gray is such a soothing color!

And the name of Leah's blog has me uncontrollably giggling as I type this. Must. Go. Read.

Great job! Adds industrial romance to the place--love the way the light comes through the white curtains--glowing!

The punches of color when the curtains are drawn (I'm thinking of the red TV console) is dramatic, love it.

I think this home is beautiful and Arthur is generous to share it with the public, and AT is wonderful for bringing it to us.

In particular, I love the landing vignette, the light, Arthur's photograph.

I also enjoy seeing the homeowner, it makes the tour more personal instead of an empty space (I like to know that someone lives in these gorgeously designed homes!). Arthur's easy on the eyes, too. :)

Lastly, I don't think AT will stop doing house tours, and I don't think people will stop volunteering to do them, because of the comments (positive and negative) here. People are entitled to their opinions and as I've written before, their comments say more about themselves than they do what they are commenting on. What does envy and jealousy really say about a person? Insults and competitiveness? Hint: It has nothing to do with the object of contempt.

I think that people share their homes because they've created something beautiful and they want to share it, and for some, because they believe it will also inspire more beauty and good living. That's what I have noticed, what I choose to assume, what I choose to respond to, and what I choose to believe.

And I think this makes my world beautiful, too.

Can't wait for the Alameda this weekend, it'll be my first time! (Was disappointed with the SJ Flea Market when I went there instead because the Alameda wasn't until this week.)

Love that Modern Cottage.

This home is beautiful and inspiring, not only from the work Michele's put into it, but also what she has created. It's gorgeous, fun, rich, funky, and charming. I could get lost for days and wouldn't mind a moment!

ehy2k, I love Bertolucci's set designs! The Last Emperor was sumptuous and then there was Stealing Beauty, I just wanted to move there!

Two horror movies have pretty cool designs, and that was 13 Ghosts (the remake) and When a Stranger Calls (the remake). I don't quite remember The Hand that Rocks the Cradle, but I do remember the greenhouse was lovely!

Take care,

The white spaciousness is so relaxing!

And that dog photo (or is it a painting?) in the bedroom, I believe, is adorable.

A place you designed based on your idea of "home." Love it! I'd be smiling all day if I hung out there.

Take care,

I.

I thought this was fun and expressive of an unapologetic sense of style. The mermaid table was fascinating--what a unique piece--and the decor was a wonderful combination of rustic and retro with kitsch that didn't go into campy.

By the way, it's great reading everybody's reactions to this home (and I wouldn't want anybody not to say anything). Obviously, the comments say more about the person and his or her values than it does about the place.

By the way, paintings by Audubon usually involved him shooting the bird, stuffing it, posing it, and then painting it (he didn't have a camera to get a reference photo that didn't move). A lot of contemporary natural history illustrations also involve using taxidermied subjects found in natural history museums and science labs.

We all have personal value systems. Some people don't mind having seashells or starfish in their homes, right? The important thing to remember is what *you* want to invite into *your* home.

Take care,

I.
