Everything looks flat and rectangular in the photo, as if you need way more cuddly, luxurious, textured fabrics and way more shapes to everything. Pale coral, leave the trims the same color you have, put up some climbing plants (they will thrive) and hang some patterned curtains~ maybe couch-gray, your wall color now, and bits of other colors. Have always felt most fortunate to have grown up in a neighborhood full of relatives who built their own houses (and did the plumbing and electrical work), gardened, and encouraged the kids to get involved. My grandmother let us spend hours poring through her fabric chest full of scraps and buttons, and we had a great- gramp who wove rugs and blankets. Think fabric as well as paint, as a couple of others have mentioned. My own preference would be to paint the walls pale blue, keep the cabinets white, and add fabric (cushions and window treatment) that introduced bits of more colors to the red, white, and blue scheme. For the student: Build a loft bed or enclosed swedish bed along the back wall next to the kitchen. Rig up a slanted wall off the doorway of the kitchen for a bit of extra privacy. You could make a shelving unit wall, for instance. Layout Suggestions In Awkwardly Shaped Apartment? Good Questions |

I am so GLAD to see that so many have posted about liking white appliances ~ and admitting they are not on the stainless steel bandwagon.
