I love wrapping with brown paper! I get it from shopping bags.

Ribbon gives it a festive touch. The New Yorker provides fodder for decoration -- I cut the letters of the person's name out of the magazine and glue it to the paper. A couple times I've even cut out whole words and composed impromptu 'found' poems!!

One of my major morning stressors has been trying to put together an outfit while only about half awake. I have greatly reduced this stress by laying out the entire outfit (including shoes, accessories) the night before. That way, all I have to do in the mornings is step into it!

Getting Psyched Up: Dress On Display

It's important to me to *feel* good, so I do wear clothes that make me feel good, but I don't wear makeup -- gives my skin a break! I feel good in clothes that are a little better fitting than t-shirts, but still casual enough that I can move and breathe and enjoy myself!

@Dione, you can do it! And you'll be a better driver than the average person because you'll be that much more aware of bikers and pedestrians.

This is great! I figured out the 'comfy place to sit' the hard way when I had friends over and the only seating choices were straight backed chairs or the bed!! (It's a studio.) I quickly found some great lounge chairs for my eat-in kitchen that have made it much more comfortable and fun to have people over.

The one thing I'm missing is "One thing you really love." It's definitely a work in progress.

I have mixed feelings about schlepping around NYC. I love the walking, but often get back strain from carrying groceries, etc. My best tools/workarounds so far have been 1. My Ameribag purse, which I wear all the time and eliminates so much strain on my back, 2. My backpack (for groceries), and 3. My cart (for laundry).

This is such a great idea!! Drawing is an amazing way to preserve memories from a trip, and to have it in such a compact bundle is perfect for packing!

I sometimes even buy postcards at the places I go and then draw pictures on the backs of them. I never thought of using colored pencils, though-- then I could write on top of the picture!

Earl's list is much more doable for an NYC studio! I do weights and yoga at home on my yoga mat. I don't have room for cardio equipment, but I try to walk in the park when I can. And YES! to the indoor saltwater lap pool. If we're going to talk unrealistic, let's do it with pizzazz!

So true. This year I learned that housework is an every-day-before-bed kind of thing, not an every-couple-of-weeks-for-an-entire-day kind of thing. I feel much happier.

I don't love this look-- I think it's because there's just too much going on upholstery-wise; it looks chunky, esp in a small place. But I do love the small bench idea.

If they painted the window sills a teal blue, and/or added teal blue curtains, I would be in heaven.

Americans don't realize how different our mode of life here is from that of Europe. People there spend more time out and less time at home. A bedroom is often just used for sleeping and not playtime or homework.

I spent a lot of time in Germany with friends-- a family of 5 who lived in an incredibly small space, but they didn't spend much time at home. Mostly, they went outside and had picnics in parks and rode their bikes in the countryside for fun. Children at age 10 have freedom to go places without their parents-- from age 6 many ride their bikes to school alone. So it's not like people spend all day sitting/playing/exercising/eating in their apartments like we do in the US. The children would not be 'cooped up.' Europeans use public spaces much more freely and wisely-- and plan their city centers to be dense so that the countryside is never too far from home.

I'm doing without curtains.
My windows already have beautiful 1910s wood trim, so I made paper flowers and vellum fans and strung them up around the edges.

People say it is expensive to eat healthy, but it can actually be dirt cheap if you kinow what to make. I eat a lot of rice, soups made in the crock pot, fajitas, sweet potatoes, kale, and fish. Also, I work at a restaurant, so that takes care of 1 meal/day.

Instead of cable or Netflix or renting movies, I get DVDs and books on tape from the library.

Also, I got rid of most of my car insurance. Scary, but the money is just not there. Unfortunately, public transportation in the rural South is not an option.
