Depending on how gutsy you are, why not try ombre? Start with a medium color on the far right of the wall and fade to white on the left. You would add that pop of color, but it wouldn't be too in-your-face.

We are moving in two weeks, and I am already planning a floor area for my girl. Since she's still little, for now it will be a soft rug and toys. When she gets a bit bigger, I am going to add a book box and beanbag chair so she has an official reading corner.

I'm with PrettyKitty on this one. Trophy hunts are a waste. But even if you hate killing animals (which I can respect), it's hard to argue with the green points
- The deer (the animal of choice for my arguement) are born wild, live wild and are never penned up. So, a good life.
- They eat good food, not weird modified, chemical-laced feed.
- When my husband hunts, he only needs to drive about 15 miles to the grounds, and another 30 to get it processed. Even round trip, that's a damn small gas footprint compared to store-bought meat. For many hunters, this is the case.
- If you get the meat vac-packed (in plastic sadly, but hear me out), it lasts well over a year. For me, that has meant less going to the grocery store.

Overall, if you are going to eat meat responsible, respectful hunting is the best way to go, if you can. Not to mention that around here, large numbers of deer are a detriment to local farmers and ranchers. When populations get out of control, crops are lost and peoples entire livelihoods are literally at stake.

I would also like to mention that around here, food banks will take extra deer. If you kill an extra one, many processors will take it in at no charge to you and make sure it gets to a family in need. And if you ask a family in real need if they would reather eat or be vegetarian, I think you can guess what the answer would be.

A final note for the record...I don't hunt and never will.

If you're doing it just to be a green snot then yes, it is wrong and entirely against the entire spirit of Christmas.

If you are trying to shop greener for the holidays overall and find something they would use or really like, then you are okay. mAlice is right, it doesn't have to be reusable shopping bags or a glass water bottle. It can be something decorative that is made in a green way.

I was actually just wrapping up my holiday shopping today and had a similar situation. I came across a set of the ToGo Ware and ended up buying them for my mother in law. She doesn't go out of her way to be green (or ungreen). But I bought them because she carries her lunches to work and hates weak plastic ware, but also doesn't want to take her regular silverware with her. So it was greenm bought locally and she will like/use it.

Can anyone tell me what kind of quilt is being made in the photo...does it have a specific name?

I love giving cookies, pancakes or oatmeal mix in a jar. The only thing I try to bear in mind is there is a ton of food floating around during the holidays. For that reason, I tend to shy away from candies and other stuff people may be sick of. I feel that by making something that can sit in the cabinet for a bit, they will be slightly more appreciated. www.budget101.com has an extensive listing of "Stuff-in-a-jar".

Another good way to go about it is make a coupon for something you know they love. Then, when the mid-summer craving for peach cobbler sets in, they call in the favor.

About the TENT...it's a cute idea, but it kind of defeats the purpose of chair tents. Kids are supposed to spend the whole afternoon getting creative and gathering stuff from all over the house to build. This seems to suck the fun/creativity factor right out.

In high school, I loved christmas lights. I had a room at was about 10 by 10, and I coverd the ceiling in blue, purple and white lights. It sounds really awful, but trust me, it looked wonderful. I would set them on a timer and turn them on when I went to bed. Very soothing.

Craftster is my biggest inspiration. Plus, it's great to get feedback on projects and see how other people problem solve. But also from Etsy, thrift stores, and magazines. And little kids...the total abandon of not having a "plan" or making something "perfect" is something a lot of adults should remember.

I live in an area with very limited recycling (no glass), and no pickup. So I just use the $1 shopping bags that you can get at every grocery store now. They are the perfect size, freestanding, cheap, washable and not too heavy when full. It works great for a 2-person household.
