I kinda like the mismatching furniture and i love the small picture frames over the large canvas, its unique and very urban outfitter style.

I have been toying with the idea of taking on this exact chandelier as a diy project, but have been hesitating because of my complete lack of electrical knowledge. Thanks so much for this post. I may now actually try it.

I would love to know what colors you used in the living room and bedroom. They look different depending on what picture you look at. BTW, your place is awesome!

What a surreal moment to be browsing AT today and seeing a picture of Fashion Plates. To be honest, I had completely forgotten about this toy I had until all the memories came flooding back. I spent hours "drawing". What great memories!!

I love your idea of using high gloss and matte finish paint in the same color. I have been wondering what to do with my big blank wall in the living room and this has given me some inspiration.

I currently live in St. Thomas, VI and boy do we know how to conserve everything from water to electricity. Turning off water while shampooing and soaping up is the best way to conserve water. Even when I travel to the States I do this. You save gallons of water and you don't have to limit your time in the shower.

I love this home. Thanks so much for sharing! I have been thinking about using slate in my bathrooms and after looking at yours, it has really inspired me to go for it.

I like the new gallery much better as well, but I agree with madsarah. You need to put back the "return to original post" button. The only option is to go back to the main page and after scrolling through all the posts to find that tour, it can be a little frustrating. That is my only critique!

I have this exact problem as well. 90% of my walls are concrete and hanging just a mirror is a big deal. Does anyone have any advise on how to hang things on concrete walls without having to hire someone? It seems silly to have to hire a person to hang a picture :)

I just bought my first home, a small, dated apartment with lots of potential! I was becoming discouraged with interior decorating websites because none seemed to apply to my needs. I was looking for fresh new ideas for small spaces. I am sooo excited I stumbled onto this website and have been addicted to it all week! AT has not only given me inspiration, but also some courage to play around with bold colors and unique furniture designs. The red chair is beautiful, and with my new found knowledge of interiors, I think it would be a great accent piece in my new home.

Hi,

I have 2 vrbo homes in the caribbean which is a hot vacation spot. As long as your home is in a popular vacation area, you can do pretty well with it. Don't expect huge profits though. Being able to cover your mortgage and insurance and some expenses may be what you should expect from it. Also, expect to invest an initial chunk of money to prep the home for vacation renters. Depending on where you are, their expectation for a vacation home may be high when comparing it with other homes in your area. Good luck!

For everyone who has left comments complaining that going "green" is too expensive, I would just like to say this.

It seems that people are forgetting that you do not need to spend a dime of your money in order to start living a more environmentally friendly lifestyle. I live in the Virgin Islands where our electricity costs are triple what people pay in the United States and we depend on rain water to fill up our cisterns for our homes. Our "greener" lifestyle comes straight out of an economic need to keep costs down and to avoid emptying our cisterns before the next big rain. Most people cannot afford to replace appliances with these new fancy ones. We take matters into our own hands and have slightly modified our lifestyles to become as efficient with utilities as possible. We only use our A/C at night if it gets really hot, we turn OFF the water in the shower while shampooing and shaving, we only run the dishwasher, washer and dryer when totally full, we turn off EVERYTHING when we are not home, we never leave faucets running while brushing your teeth. I could go on and on.

Everyone can make a difference in their own way. Criticizing others for their efforts to become greener by spending money is unnecessary.
