The homeowners took into consideration who was going to be using the space and came up with a great solution. Who knows, maybe the kids were the ones that caused all the wear. I myself have a pretty scarred parquet floor, and I've not done a darm thing to it for fear that I will spend the time/money and my boys are just going to tear it up, anyway. Great idea! Time and time again, both my children and the neighborhood children eschew fancier sleds, including giant inflatables, to use these. In fact, I think we were gifted a big inflatable tube that my kids left somewhere and didn't care about to go back and get it. @havenobsessed - a) I don't think it would be complicated, but this particular design combines two of the benches to make one table, if you notice. b) I think it would be easy to adjust the measurements to allow for an umbrella, but a child sized umbrella -- if you made this two big, not sure that you would use plywood and the design without getting some sagging for the table.
