cute (if slightly weird) idea, but i laughed at the meticulous instructions for how to... cover a label with your own label.

i love the cosmetic holder, but i wouldn't buy it for even half the price. however, these are great as DIY inspirations.. i just might have a go with the ol' drill to try and replicate the look

"what's that, alexander? *more* wood? sigh. well, file it away in the living room wood-hole, if you must."

sarcasm aside, i do love these pictures. sigh!

all lovely, but i don't see much "organization" going on in these pictures.. just rooms with nothing but a bed & a couple other pieces in them, which of course looks great and very calming.

bedroom is so snazzy, not seeing eye-to-eye with the living room (though i do like the not-one-but-TWO chandeliers in that small space)

what? what?! i'm sorry, i didn't notice any of the small space storage solutions in this post because that "dangerous liaisons" cat rug is blowing my mind.

agree that the before-sofas would have been amazing with the right reupholster, but the after-sofa is really splendid too.. i think it's being smothered under all those pillows, though!

weird, witty, and glamorous - for me, one of the more inspiring house tours in a while! you have some absolutely wicked pieces. this house makes me want to block out several days on my calendar to just scour flea markets and estate sales. thanks for sharing.

they look really, really cool when on - love the faux stained glass effect - but kind of like a pile of junk when off.

AT, help. there was a small cool entry this year (and i'm sure i've seen this before, too) in which the coffee table was one of those tall narrow LACK bookshelves turned onto its side. can anyone direct me to it? my poring through the entries and running searches have been bootless

sigh - that coverlet puts desire deep deep in my heart. the kitchen is a bit twee but that bedroom! with the possible exception of the decal, but that's alright because the bedding and dresser and globe and drapes and even that micro-table are in such happy harmony.

i've been considering both of these chairs recently! i was unreasonably happy to see this poll.

the ikea chair is a little punishing to sit in - i feel like you'd only set guests down in it whom you didn't want to stay for very long. i do love the fabrics though - especially the green and red print. i believe the target chair comes in some other colorways, too, and just eyeballing it i can tell it's marginally more comfortable.

a moment on the taxidermy issue -

while the "display of death" is obviously not going to sit well with everyone, i (as a vegetarian who hasn't eaten animal flesh in over 8 years) don't mind it a bit. leather furniture rarely comes into such censure, and i believe that displaying an animal in its entirety rather than merely the treated, processed, and dyed skin of a cow, one avoids the cognitive disjunct caused by leather (which is, of course, sturdy and useful, but by no means a necessity in anyone's home). what i mean is that leather allows us to forget about the animal, while taxidermy memorializes the animal. it's easy to forget when looking at red cubes of meat at the supermarket or at a lovely piece of furniture that these things used to be alive; taxidermy forces us to confront the source of the material.

i think that at least part of the attractiveness, for people who like taxidermy, is related to that confrontation.

oh oh - i was eyeing the same bedding from target just last night. your room is very lovely and peaceful and reminds me of my grandmother's powder room and her knack for displaying beautiful things in a whimsical rather than ostentatious manner. i smiled.

these colors are bliss!

as an aside, i've only recently discovered AT and was wondering if anyone would steer me towards blogs or sites geared specifically toward design and organization for small apartments/ studios. i'll be moving into a small 300sqft place in the bay area soon and i'd love some inspiration.
