While the substitutes are interesting - bite the bullet and buy one! :)

Wonderful home, wonderful collections as well. I'm intrigued by the lounge chair in photo #17. It looks like it is made with a leather upholstered twin futon and a the frame of a lawn chair? Is this correct? if so - I love it. If not, I think I may assemble one myself and start a trend!

I have to admit - I was also cringing prior to making the jump to the after photo. I have seen some horrid spray-painted MCM renovations in blue, or two-toned and I didn't have the heart to see what you may have done to yours. But after seeing the results of your fine work - i applaud you and your good taste. Simply gorgeous!

Wow - there are so many good ideas to copy from this posting I don't know where to begin! You both truly have wonderful taste and know how to utilize a space perfectly. This is one of the best postings in AT history, and one worthy of bookmarking for future reference. Good job and congrats!

You have done a wonderful job. The abandoned house has become a lovely home. My only worry is that you are renting and can never own this home?

Though as a long term renter myself, I know how it feels to fix a place up only to leave a few years later.

But comfort and making a place a home is the most important aspect of living in a rental and you and your daughter have made it such a lovely place.

Wow - what a spectacular home. I love your yard - funny how no one even mentioned the undulating grasses and the trio of fountains. I'm certain the soothing sounds of water trickle into your home in the evening and is divine!

I especially love the butterscotch dresser in photo #15 and the color chosen for the master bedroom.

The only thing that bothers me is the fact that you did not hide the CPU in next to your desk. That's a simple hide and it would make the office much less officey!

The photo of your doggy reminds me of that faraway glance Natalie Wood has in Splendor in the Grass! Love it!

Love it! Your space is amazing and filled with great ideas for all of us to copy! I for one will be doing the blackboard paint on the jar thingy - smart! The Dr. Seuss column and the additional red accents throughout the space are wonderful! How did you two get so much taste and style - you're barely out of your teens... maybe you're still in them!

wow - that's quite a lot of work to do in 6 months! i've been planning a paint job of my living room for twice as long! kudos on a job well done.

you place looks wonderful. a well balanced use of colors and patterns - brings it all together. i'm not a fan of the minty green you are using throughout certain rooms - but it does work as a color theme.

the only bummer i see, and i preface this with the fact that we pitched our tv set 9 years ago, is the dominance of the flat panel tv screen in the living room. i wish there were better ways to hide these sets (behind a large painting?) so they wouldn't dominate the space so much.

but other than that i really love your place and am intrigued by the exterior and entire housing complex. any more details and this would be helpful. thanks for sharing. edgaroso

Wow - I always wondered how these beauties were made - never thought it was so intensive. But it is definitely worth the effort.

Growing up in Spain I always lived with these tiles and to this day a room that has these tiles - no matter how out-of-fashion they may be, always looks spectacular and special.

Mschatelaine is right - Just about every finish decision you make in a house is more or less permanent.

Is this really all that practical? I'd love to see the floor after one waters these hanging gardens? I can see MAYBE doing them outside, but it seems they would be high maintenance to say the least!

While I can understand the need to conserve water, I think some more extensive Xeriscaping gardening would have been a better solution, one that would have enhanced the beauty of your house as well. I love what you did with the house but the garden is kind of sad looking. It's not too late to alter your alterations!

wow - love the transformation and how you kept certain things as is. I think the radiator and the floors look great, and while I hear a few people bemoaning the white washing - i feel the other items in the room bring color into the space best.

being a cozy-crafter at heart, you may want to eventually make a little kilim window seat cushion thingy for rainy days when you're curled up with a cup of tea and the ny times!
