@R_Claw, I have no say in any comments posted except what come from me personally. I actually requested more feedback. I easily glaze over what's in my own home, but it's much easier to help someone else design their space!

@sagekitten85, the reclining feature was also high on our list. Obviously, lazyboy and Haynes provide far more of those than Crate & Barrel! But then you come home with typical overstuffed americana. I at least tried to pretty them up some with my handmade pillows :)

@islandgirl33, the comforter is from Target's Dwell Studio line. I just looked it up online, and it's $20 cheaper than what we paid for it 2 years ago! Highly recommend, it's a great quality item.

Thank you all for taking the time to comment. To answer some of the questions (or criticism!):
The wood paneling is temporary. It was last updated in the 70's, and I'm kind of scared to see what lies beneath. We're in the middle of a kitchen reno/gut job, so I'll be tackling the paneling next! We chose not to paint the paneling because we don't like that look. I tried to work with it by incorporating lots of white and bright green accents to freshen it up some. Trust me, it's not easy making faux wood paneling look good! I'm shocked so many people actually like it! I thought it was cool the first month I lived there, but now I feel like I'm trapped in a faux forest I can't escape at dinner time :(

Due to overwhelming response about the sofas, I know they aren't the most beautiful things in the world. But after butt-testing 100's of sofas, we decided to get the ugly reclining ones with high backs and puffy arms. So function wins over form in this case, and we can squeeze tons of guests on those two pieces. I actually love sitting on the puffy arms, which is why it was a requirement! I was dying for a low profile sleek looking number, but it was either too pricey, or too uncomfortable.

@marlamischief1, The orange thing in the bedroom is an Eero Aarnio pup from CB2. I got it a couple years ago. @JulieLeanne, The green circle in the Xbox Command Center is indeed a cat toy. I was going to move it, but since they use it as furniture, I figured it should stay in the picture :)

@fraise, you're right about the bathroom not being "tiny" compared to most people on here. But in the land of Richmond's McMansions, it's pretty small! I personally think it's the perfect size.

@RocketJen, it's your typical Hunter ceiling fan from HD. We don't have central air in our house, so the fans, as much as I wanted a pretty chandelier, had to be installed.

@BLSjess now that you mention the front pillow, it's going. I never really cared what was on the bed before, but now I can just imagine how nice the bedroom would look without it!

Thanks again for the feedback. Please keep the ideas coming :)

I love absolutely everything! The bedroom colors are dreamy, and the fabric in the bottom left corner on the first picture perfectly pulls all the colors in the living room together. Love it!

I love dark, dramatic spaces in general, but you really blew me out of the water with this. The dark walls, the throw on the bed, the tree painting, omg that coffee table and that black chair! Then I study it harder and see the mirrored tables, the chunky black picture frame, and even the understated gold frame in the kitchen make me swoon. Seriously in love with this space. Seriously.

Although you get major brownie points for the ghost chairs, I love your whole place to pieces! I would never think about painting my own walls the color of your bathroom, but seeing it with that fabulous shower curtain, it really looks nice.

You use your washer and dryer as countertops. In my case, raise the cabinets several inches to install a countertop to go across the w/d! And then have to buy a step stool to reach the counter :(

And realize there's no where to store the stepstool.

You buy extra cushy dining room chairs, because they have to double as extra guest seating.

You realize a 20" stove is really all the space you need to make homecooked meals. 30"? Total waste of necessary cabinet space!

Your cookbook is allrecipes.com, pulled up on your laptop, because there's no place to store real cookbooks.

Your electricity bill is only $35-40/month. In ANY season.

You realize the attic can be used as another living space. Only 3 months out of the year, but it's something!

Two of the walls in my bedroom have windows, and the other two are too awkward for placing the bed. Instead of a headboard, we put the bed under one of the windows and use the curtains as our headboard. I spread the rod out long past the window to make it the same width as the bed. It's dramatic, huge, and a piece of cake to do... just hang the curtains on a rod!

Here's a really bad picture, before I spread the rod out. But you get the idea:
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_tbxrVJTBfhY/S0knn2BE3SI/AAAAAAAAAgY/wVRBwBBpMgE/s1600-h/5%5B4%5D.jpg

Cheat tip: Although the bed is tall, it's actually on the low-profile Malm bed frame, with a box spring to raise the mattress up. The malm headboard comes up just enough to hold the pillows behind us without leaning on (and pulling down) the curtains, and just low enough you'd never know it was there.

My husband didn't seem too thrilled (ok, he wasn't at ALL) with me wanting these delicious 100% glass mirrored side tables for the bedroom. They were $90 each, and he saw some that were dark wood, that were half the price. Plus it had two drawers on his, and only one on mine. I stuck to my guns and said I wanted the mirrored ones.

Those tables not only brightened the room, they look invisible since it's nothing but glass reflecting the light and wall colors, and the 1 drawer on each holds everything we need it too (including my book, 4 magazines, cell phone, ipod, and probably an elephant if I tried). Although I have to clean them with windex, I just spot over them when I'm cleaning all the other mirrors in the house, just like I would have with duster on all the woods. The room appears bigger, and since it always stays tidy, it just reflects all the clean surfaces. Win/win.

We also bought IKEA clset organizers, eliminated all the extra throw pillows from the bed, took the lid off our clothes hamper (it's amazing how much time we wasted just lifting up the top and putting it back down every day), and I have just two jewelry holders, both out in the open: a tree stand to hold all my bracelets and necklaces, and a glass hand to hold all my rings. I paired down my collection significantly, and all I have to do is drop them on the stands each night and move on instead of fumbling in drawers or other organizers.

And the biggest, best investment we've made (other than those fantastic tables!) was blackout curtains. They keep the light and cold/heat out, so there's no need for blinds to have to fumble around with. Can you tell how excited this room makes me?

I love the after shots! I actually just used these same lamps on mirrored nightstands in my own bedroom.

To AmyinPittsburg, I looked at the dresser and the very first thought that hit me was DIY. The bottom looks exactly like the malm coffee table at Ikea, and then two different sized dresser drawers on top. This would be easy to mimic by simply buying or painting white pieces and stacking them on each other.

I just love this! We've been looking for a stylish pull down faucet to replace our (25 year old) faucet! I've been saving for a kitchen reno since February 2008, maybe this will help me kick start the process of finally doing it!

My husband knocked the radio off the headboard (yes, we keep it on there because we don't have bedside tables yet!) and it broke right in half. We desperately need a replacement, and this beauty would be a wonderful addition!

I love it so much, I designed my friend's potential nursery around the DwellStudio Owl bedding and pulled this in to compliment it. You can see it here:

Obviously, I needed an excuse to go woodland crazy. It's my favorite for kids rooms!

I used Martha Stewart Vintage Map from Lowes. It's bright in the daytime, deeper at night, and changes from a blue blue to a gray blue to a green blue depending on the time of day and the weather. I love it!

Emeco Navy chairs! Or knockoffs if you're cheap like me. I just picked up a fabulous table from the thrift store that's long like yours with curvy legs and a very traditional curvy cut top. I put two white slip covered Ikea chairs on the ends, and am putting 4 Navy chairs in the middle. It would look killer with your table as well!

I wouldn't paint the cabinets, but I also wouldn't keep them the same. I would stain them a dark cherry wood color, which will help the burgundy look less out of place. Frame the mirror with a chunky dark wood frame, update the knobs and the light fixture (whatever it is, a quick change can do a world of difference), and add a warm neutral to the walls. I really like this space as an example:

Then put a nice big picture above the toilet tying in all the shades you just added, and a rich, warm shower curtain (maroon?) and you'll be set! I love updating bathrooms :)

I just worked on my organization in my craft room I'm "curing" last night. I blogged about it here: http://iheartminiblog.blogspot.com/2009/11/fall-curecraft-room-update.html

I still have to DIY some shelves to go in the shallow part of the room behind the Poang chair, and the room needs to be painted, but it's coming along! I had to do my retail therapy portion last week, since my hotel room was only a few miles from Ikea. I also need to scout out some cheery mustard color fabric for the windows (however cheery mustard can get!) and something to cover up all the storage that's under the built in desk that's not pictured. Probably more fabric! I'm also on the hunt for a cushy, soft rug to go in my empty corner since I like to do most of my cutting and measuring on the floor.

I just wish I had TRUE before pictures from when this room was filled to the brim with junk for over 50 years from the P.O., who left it for us to deal with. I was so angry I didn't even get a shot of it :(

I went to Home Depot to check out the sample of your paint. I think I'm convinced to use it as my navy blue walls. I've had 10 different swatches of dark blue to decide between, but none of them won me over like Sullivan!
