Those bookshelves are fabulous. I love seeing other people who have and use and have on view loads of books.

I would have voted insta finalist for this one.

What do you mean you can't believe this contest was allowed to take place? Allowed by whom?

It's a nice place and a place that has lots of potential but have you looked at other entried from the past two contests?

I voted not my thing b/c while there is a lot of potential it needs another layer or two to bring it home.

(I keep thinking of Shauna's More Dash than Cash from last year and nothing this year matches that for personal *style*.)

I really like many things about this space. Thank you for sharing it.

And since you ask for suggestions...

Not sure what others would think but: I would paint the bedroom walls something closer to the color of the fireplace or the concrete counter in the kitchen. I'd also want a different green for the curtains and I'd find a different lamp.

And while the living room is soothing I'd at least add colour and texture (thinking judy ross and looola pillows) with pillows and a throw.

Thinking about a color that will work with the persimmon chair.

That's another name for "black americana" or "black memorabilia" by some people who think and write about such collectibles.

I didn't mean my comments to be harsh.

I think you've put a lot of time and energy into your place and with a few changes you could really bring it together.

In that spirit think about adding pillows of a lighter color to the sofas to break up the red and mute the blue and maybe even gesture toward the brown I wonder if they could be angled as well.

An area rug to define the living room and break up the grey (i think) of the carpet would also pull together the space.

Thank you for sharing your home.

The windows are great. I wish there was less black in the living area--the grey sofa bed looks nice but it gets lost in the black.

I would at least add some bright cushions on the s/b and a rug. And I'd remove the black coffee table and the table between the Wassily chairs.

I'd also get rid of that constellation of the other black chair, torchiere, and vase with red and green things sticking out of it.

That would lighten the room.

I really don't like the blue and green or the salmon.

But the yellow in the bedroom looks great.

I like the idea of the chocolate and the blue but the chocolate seems too dark and the blue too light.

Somehow this slip says it all, "like how the green Pellegrino bottles above my kitchen cabinets clashperfectly against the turquoise kitchen walls".
Unfortunately it does clash.

You clearly care about your environment and you've made it a home.

Think about reupholstering the red sofas or adding pillows of a lighter color to break up the red and mute the blue and maybe even gesture toward the brown.

What's up with the racist memorabilia--the "blackamoors"?

Sigh.

And another sigh for the ignorance of Hed Kandi.

Michael writes, "For me, it is not so much an objection to the killing of animals for ethical reasons, but the blood & guts imagery conjured up by a hide still shaped like the entire animal. It's just gross, which is different from saying that it is unethical.

I likewise much prefer eating chicken cutlets to chicken on the bone, for the same reason."

In other words, people like the cruelty disguised. If you eat a cutlet as opposed to a thigh you don't have to think about the chicken as you eat. So you walk on leather shoes (not cow shaped) but be *grossed out* by walking on a cow shaped rug.

I like this apartment a lot.
