These seem to be among the more intimidating of handheld power tools - for good reason, I suppose.

A local contractor made it to the age of 57 before he took off two of his fingers with one of these - handholding a board and cutting with his fingers too close to the cut path.

I'll use my circular saw for just about anything. Last night I was holding it overhead to trim the ends on some too-long straps.

I've shortened steel exterior doors, ripped 8' sheets of plywood and anything in between.

A good straightedge will increase the utility of your saw tenfold.

Looks nice, but your siding looks more like shiplap to me: http://wpcontent.answers.com/wikipedia/en/c/ca/Shiplap.dwg.gif

"polycarbonate clearstory"

Could you be looking for "clerestory" here? (pronounced clu-ress-tory)

What on earth is wrong with wiping your ass?

You're going to have a shower eventually (I know that I shower at least five times a week), whats wrong with a little pee dribble or poo smear?

Clean freaks make me laugh - I wish I had time to worry about things that are so utterly inconsequential..

I am going to keep on living my dirty-assed life, and not spend $850 on some ridiculous toilet thing.

Sort of gross to think of somebody buying 2400 DVD's.

That's one a day for over 6 years.

At an average price of $15 per, he's spent $36,000 on movies.

teeze: The creator of the coat rack was using what is called a "tilt shift" lens - it gives pics that weird miniature look.

One of the biggest changes you can make is shutting off the computer when it's not being used. I used to leave mine on 24/7/365, when it was really only being used for around two hours per day. I instantly saw a $10-15 drop in my bill.

As far as the hot water stuff, we are tankless gas so the above will save on our gas bill, not our electric bill.

It is frustrating here in Ontario that the bulk of the bill seems to be delivery and debt charges as opposed to actual usage - makes it hard to get motivated to conserve when you are only able to reduce the amount of a small fraction of your bill.

They can use electricity, they just don't connect to large scale electrical grids. A lot of them use generators to power equipment.

I hope you have some blue paint left, because you need to take that tv down and center it.

as somebody has already suggested, get a piece of 3/4 or 1" finish grade plywood cut the size of the opening.

you can hang your TV from anywhere on the plywood.

in fact, if you mount the plywood spaced out from the back wall with 2x2 material, you can cut holes and run your wires in behind. move the dvd player to the bookshelf below.

Neighbour on one side is a reddish brown brick multiplex (two story). The other side is a creamy colour.

The street is really a hodgepodge of houses - across the street is mint green viny, next to that is white stucco, the next down is reddish insul-brick.

Adjustable shelving would be great to keep your cats on their toes - or you could just swap in longer/shorter shelves periodically.

The real question is, how much do you folks get paid for each post that not so subtly references a current or upcoming movie/tv show?

I'm guessing we'll see a whole series of posts on the "interiors of 90210"

Can't wait.

Spraypaint it whatever colour you want.

Problem solved.

Current DIY efforts are all green-oriented. Stripping off layers of siding from my home and adding 2" of styrofoam insulation over 100% of the exterior. Taking this time to add and replace windows and doors as well.

I owe my DIY ethos to my father - growing up I was not aware that you could pay people to come to your house to do things for you. He did absolutely everything on his own.

As a fairly experienced woodworker, I'd say that the design of this shelf makes it fairly easy to pull off construction wise.

The way that the shelves jut off in different directions would give them great stability when screwed through the backing board (which looks more like birch or maple than walnut to me - the shelves are likely walnut though)

I'm going to go with hideous on this one. I agree with Snugglitas - it looks cheap or unfinished - I wouldn't want to bang my arm or head on the sharp edges of the logs!

UL: Underwriters Laboratories - http://www.ul.com/

The simple version is that they give products (esp. electrical/electronic) safety approval.

Agreed on the ceiling - It looks really cool, but you are going to be having heat and moisture issues in there, I would think.
