I'm so confused about bumper pads. I keep reading they are NEVER to be used, yet they appear in every AT nursery post. Perhaps they are removed before the baby goes in the crib?

I can't quite understand the kitchen floor. Is that wide piece of wood meant to be the reducer strip between levels?

I think the paint color is beautiful. If she had called it "pale cognac" instead of peach, I bet there wouldn't be so many negative comments. This room is lovely. The restraint is refreshing, as is the choice of color.

There is a lovely color called Crescent Cream from SW that I used in a master years ago. I loved its warmth, and the atmospheric nature of it as the light moved through the room.

This color in this room could also be a lighter version of the very popular Wilmington Tan from BM.

I got poofed too. Only rave reviews are acceptable. Apparently. What happened to expressing a difference of opinion?

I would definitely pay close attention to company culture on this. If I saw the above cubicle (with chandelier!), I would question how serious the person is. If the norm is a family pic or two, I would never go past that.

If you don't have hardwood underneath, I would highly recommend a vinyl plank floor. They look far more authentic than laminate, are less expensive than cork, are very quiet (no nails clacking), and DON'T SCRATCH.

Break It Down. That's how I approach projects. I learned this a few years ago when my DH announced he had signed me up for a half-marathon. In late middle-age and only a casual runner, I set out a plan (thank you Hal Higdon!) with weekly goals. Lo and behold, when the day came, I was very well prepared. The other key is to give yourself a date where the project MUST be done. Without that time constraint, things will linger. Just about anything can be broken down into small segments that, once achieved, mean you have succeeded at the larger task.

I'm pretty fond of most Lagunitas brews...and they are nice people as well. Brown Shugga was a particularly favorite.

I wish there was a filter on Pinterest. Not interested in babies, weddings, or messy updo's. Even if I view those I am following, it is so cluttered with all the stuff I have zero interest in. And the blatantly commercial pins are getting annoying.

You're trying too hard to match the sofa. I would get an Ikea Stockholm Rand rug. Add a brass and glass coffee table, and some very textured throw pillows in colors like gold, orange and rose.. This will make the sofa pop, rather than disappearing into a bland "scheme".

Haha. No one mentioned getting old. I couldn't sleep in if I wanted to. One day, you will look back at the days of alarm clocks and cats and showers and coffee pots and marvel that you actually needed something external to wake you.

Maybe try something that really complements your mum's Nespresso. A gift of the capsules, or some of the beautiful racks that display them would be very nice. I have owned a Nespresso for some time, and use the Bodum glasses exclusively. Check out the Nespresso site for accessories, or if you have a Sur La Table in your town, visit them. Mugs? Meh.

Please make Black Friday go away. Why does the media kowtow to retailers by promoting this idea? I would be more interested in a piece on how to AVOID Black Friday.

There was an article in the NYT recently on the decline of people committing to show up for ANYTHING. When you can dash off a text to get out of a commitment, nothing seems important anymore. I figure people are waiting to see if they get a better offer for the date in question so they don't bother to RSVP.

Smoking in condo communities is a very hot issue now, and many communities have banned smoking on the premises. I am the President of my condo association, and we are dealing with this constantly. Most smokers are unaware of how pervasive the smell is, and often cite their "rights". A non-smoker will ask why they must be denied the right to use their balcony because their neighbor smokes. When my neighbor's teenage daughters both light up on their balcony, I have to leave mine, go indoors, and close the windows. The heavy smoker in the unit adjacent to the lobby means the first impression you get of our building is that of cigarette smoke. I have visited the units of people who are next to or above heavy smokers and the smell is very obvious. I don't think we can continue to place smoking in the same category as any other nuisance, like a barking dog or crying child. It's dangerous as well as being obnoxious. I know our community is moving in the direction of a ban...and that will be a good thing.

You say you love it, and you say you're having fun, but the words you use include gauntlet, job, panicked, shocked, financial hit. Over the years, I grew to absolutely hate Christmas. Now that I have dialed it down, I can enjoy it more. No gifts. Easy, no-stress, gatherings. Travel after Christmas Day (saves money). I don't understand the mind set of a commercial event being called a holiday or a celebration. It's all about the retailers.

I read this post of Emily's and decided to use Gray Owl in my kitchen. Ugh. It is like an institutional green-ish blue, definitely not the warm gray she describes it as. It's almost minty. Now searching for another color.

The Dorothy Parker poster is awesome. This is beautiful. I was born in Tacoma and my gran lived there, it is grim and gray and this place is a fantastic oasis. I hope the pillow is an homage to the Log Lady.
