I second the suggestion to check out something from Rowe. I have two sofas from them and love them. You can enter your mother's zip code in this web page to get a list of their retailers.

BruceS63 -- I almost forgot about the Green Dragon! Where else can you buy antique teacups, live chickens, knock-off handbags, and funnel cake?

I'm from Reading, PA but moved to be with my husband who's from the Midwest. There's a decently-sized German population out here, but I'm yet to find a Hex sign on the side of a barn (I'm also still looking for the rolling hills of the Eastern-PA farming lands). Thanks for the article, this made me feel like I was at home for a few minutes. Don't forget about another PA-Dutch art, scherenschnitte, paper cutting. It seems like this craft is gaining in popularity.

My freshman roommate had a Lovesac (which she ordered before she knew the dimensions of the dorm) and that thing was a pain in the ass. When your living space is limited, like it is in a dorm, you don't want something big and bulky like a lovesac or the Fat Boy getting in the way. Plus, when she drunkenly puked on the thing, it was incredibly hard to clean. So moral of the story is don't spend too much on your dorm room contents because someone is bound to trash it.

I'd question the suggestions on this list if I were you. I grew up in Reading, PA and it's nothing like their description. True, there is a beautiful historic district where you can cheaply buy a house, but "home to top-notch schools, four universities"? Not exactly. My high school had a gang problem (my locker was owned by the Latin Street Kings) and is probably going to be taken over by the state, and there's not a university to be found...unless you count the satellite campus of Penn State on the outskirts of town. Also, it's more like an hour and a half from Philadelphia, not the advertised 30 minutes. I do have pride in my hometown, but it's not the nice-to-live-in place that the website claims it to be.
