Huh - so I just assumed it wasn't meant as a children's book because of the sexual content. But I kept looking around, and in her bio, she says, "My current project, Crime Against Nature, is both a series and a children’s book for the kid in all of us." I wonder if she means a "picture book" for the kid in all of us. A "children's book" implies that it is actually intended for children, and I just can't imagine this being marketed for children. I'm seeing it shown around on blogs meant for children's books though, and - being a former children's librarian - I'm a little puzzled.

Ha ha - yep, all the talk about animals having sex made me wonder but that's the clincher. It seems like there should be a children's version, in the spirit of 'And Tango Makes Three,' but then we wouldn't get all the interesting information!

This artwork is beautiful and the commentary on the animals' behavior is fascinating, but I don't think it's intended as a children's book. Sentences like this are the tip off: "Females seek out clitoral stimulation and other nonprocreative sexual interactions."

Gorgeous! I like how all the details add texture without distracting from the amazing print. You can also tell that colorful toys and books will be able to be layered in without competing with the design.

(Heads up - the cactus print link doesn't work.)

I love everything about this tour - it's so inspiring! It truly calls to the heart of Apartment Therapy - making spaces functional and beautiful and having just what you need. I'm especially entranced that she manages to paint in this space - wow!
Thanks so much for sharing, Mary Lee!

What a gorgeous party! I love that the primary expense was on reusable playthings (the masks). Thanks for sharing!

I agree that they're more accessible to kids than most of the animals we decorate with, so it makes sense to give them something cute and recognizable in their room. I'm in love with this squirrel lamp from Urban Outfitters, but they don't let you pick which critter you get - http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=26574566&parentid=A_DECORATE

The similarity between Christi and Knoxy was freaking me out until I clicked through and saw they live in the same building. Whew! That was really trippy for a moment.

It would be interesting to do a poll and ask people to choose which rooms look sterile or cold to them. Some of the most decorated nurseries feel sterile to me because everything is so perfectly staged that it doesn't seem like a real child would be welcome there. (Not that I don't love looking at them anyway!)

This room feels cozy and warm to me because of all the sweet little touches - the hanging fish, the happy teddy bear in the corner, the bunnies on the shelf, and of course all the pops of red!

I really love the clean gray and silver tones - and I bet the children look beautiful playing against that crisp backdrop!

Thanks so much for sharing, Kirsten!

Thanks so much for sharing! It's hard to notice the birds at first because everything else is so eye-catching, so it's fun to go back through and play "spot the bird!"

I love hearing about the way you incorporate earlier design decisions into your current aesthetic. This is exactly what we need more of - anyone can go out and buy new things to make a home look appealing to current tastes - learning to live with and love what we have . Very inspiring - thanks!

I have the Algreen barrels that look like terra cotta and have a planter in the top. They really do look good in person.

I have a hammock in my living room and it's my favorite reading spot. The gentle swaying and cocooning are instant relaxers. It's also a favorite with guests - especially kids!

Gorgeous. I love everything, but especially the quilt (I'm in awe!) and the softies.

My impression of this room is that it's perfectly stylish but would have been perfectly stylish twenty years ago as well. That's what I call timeless! It's very refreshing, since most of the time baby rooms tend to be trendy.

I love the idea of the little drawers for each child - genius!

And the alphabet! How could I forget? I was just reading that Montessorians introduce lower case letters first because you see more of them than upper case letters, which I've never thought of but makes perfect sense. I absolutely love this alphabet display and it actually looks like something your little girl will be able to learn from.

This is one of my most favorite nurseries I've seen. I love the warm neutrals, the texture of the wooden pieces, the bird mobile, the painting above the crib . . . It looks soothing and interesting at the same time - well done and congratulations on your baby girl!

I like the all-in-one functionality of this, but I wish they gave more information about how it works. I'm especially curious about how you record breastfeeding times and sides - if it's just one more complicated thing to fiddle with, it might not be that helpful.
Aside from that, I like the idea of combining a noise machine, clock, and nightlight.

Fabulous roundup! I love the mix of traditional and modern - it shows there's really a style (and price point) for everyone.

I was blown away by the house in Sao Paolo from The Selby - they deserve a post all about their kids' rooms.
