You definitely have an interesting and challenging space. One thing to keep in mind is the distance to a bathroom. I would recommend that your office goes in the space at the back of the attic instead of sleeping guests, finding a bathroom at night might be a bit of a headache, literally. The guest room (or your bedroom) would be best in the front part of the attic which looks like it has the entry door to the space and a flat ceiling. Babies don't need much space, so the middle area would be the best. Also, it looks like you may have some space for storage cabinets that you could add for clothes, supplies, etc. Most of all, try to enjoy the challenge it really looks like a fun space!

I think you need to build a raised deck to cover the entire area to make it level and safe. Use the faux wood slats (Trex) and leave small spaces in-between each slat for drainage. But, where the deck comes close to the walls of the building, where there area several openings, you would need to leave at least a 6" space between the wall and the deck, for proper drainage ( to keep water from going into the openings in the walls). Maybe since the space is shared, your neighbor might want to help with the cost!

I agree with Lemonadefish, check with the landlord before you add anything to the cabinets. The trim at the bottom should not be a issue when adding knobs. I would suggest you use a long vertical pull (the kind where you use several fingers around it to open the cabinet, does that make sense?) instead of a knob and install them above the trim piece. But if you really want to add some color to the kitchen, use some fun, colorful accessories on the top of the cabinets (no landlord issues there)!

I agree with some of the above. The aqua color should be used on the rear plane of the kitchen and alcove area. But, I would recommend a slightly muted aqua color because brighter colors tend to move forward visually and that will shorten your room, plus the muted color will be a little more sophisticated looking. To go a little bolder, you could paint the island the aqua color as well.

Your gray roof is a light cool color, so the house should be a warm darker color. Keep fascia, eaves, and window trim a crisp white. Adding shutters if you have room for them is a good idea. Paint them a similar color to the roof but a slightly darker shade, that will tie the roof to the rest of the house visually. Then add the pop of contrast color at the entry door.

How about something completely different and eclectic. Go for a Southwestern look. Use a distressed suede or leather (can be real of faux) in a warm/neutral color. Upholster it with larger more rustic nail heads and refinish the wood frame in a darker cooler gray/brown stain in a matt finish. You could also do the welt (or cording) in a contrast color.
most of all, have fun!
