A professional (or even semi-professional) photographer can do wonders. They use special lenses, (fish eye, wide-angle, etc) that can capture your space differently than the cameras most of us have. Our tiny rooms looked huge in the photos. We we met with the photographer and pointed out some of the interesting details we wanted highlighted. I am convinced that the professional photos helped us sell our house quicker and for more money in a down market.

Our realtor provided the photographer at no cost to us, which I think is a major bonus when hiring a realtor.

I'd rather live in any of the cities instead of the suburbs that surround many of them. I'd take a little urban blight over urban sprawl, chain restaurants, and big box stores.

I love them. I think you should keep them. I like Appleaday's suggestion of going to the historical society or perhaps the local newspaper...if you could learn their history, that could help you restore them to their former glory.

I think Bee Charmer was out of line, but she is also being a bit hypocritical. On 6/19/11 she wrote this: "Second, to all the negative commenters - it's OK if this is not your personal style. But you don't have to be ugly. Not everyone has unlimited funds or the time to spend scouring flea markets, attic and yard sales for 'unique' items for the house. Sometimes you want to call Crate and Barrel and have them deliver it! And not every couple has children and lives (or wants to live) in romper room."
