Besides the Tomato Junk (glad you like, Faith) I also make 30 containers of red sauce each year, and freeze it.

I can't remember the last time (15 years ago? longer?) I bought canned tomatoes or jarred sauce.

Other than applesauce, it's the thing I make the most of each harvest season (and enjoy year-round). The proof is what my freezer looks like. Careful or something will hit you in the foot!

The chairs were built by adapting the pattern you can buy at Wave Hill, the world-class public garden in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, NYC.

We heavied up all the stock and then (obviously) painted them -- a chartreuse pair, a red pair, a lavender pair -- to move around the garden at different times to brighten things.

Pattern Wave Hill sells for $10 is based on WWI-era design by a Dutch architect, Gerrit Rietveld (whose original is in MOMA I think). Anyhow, the link to buy pattern:

Hahaha (re: the photo).

Don't worry, Jack the Demon Cat is right here on his padded throne beside me, well cared for. No torture, promise.

He's a giant of an animal and rather wild, hence the madcap moment captured in the pic. But don't send the ASPCA or anything; he's much loved.

There is nobody quite like Pam. I am blessed to have her for a neighbor and blogging friend; so glad to see you share her practical-mindedness and talent here.

@HolliM and @MissBecky: I (Margaret) have very few cabinets, you are correct. I have shelf-like platforms built under the sink (you can see it in the vertical photo) and in the lower half of the pantry for pots. I confess I even use that "drawer" under the oven.

In the mudroom/foyer area, I have also tucked similar hidden spaces for things like coffee pots and blender and so on. Kind of like living on a ship.

Thank you all for the kind words (and BrianG, for doing as told, tee hee) and Sara Kate for encouraging me to do this in the first place. I was nervous because SK is a *real* cook, but there was nothing to fear after all.

I love it when you talk Botanical Latin. ;-)
Really, though, great-looking product...have to tell my gardener pals about it. Thanks.
