I think that although there are many people still hoping to own a home some day, they approach is changing. The idea of buying a "starter home" is kind of ridiculous now since you don't know if you'll be able to sell it when you're ready to upgrade. And if you're like me, you wont even THINK about buying a home until you've decided where you want to live for the next 10+ years. My little brother bought a house when he was 20 and now he has a career he loves... only it's 3 hours away. He can't sell the house, and it's a huge hassle to rent it. I just think more young people are realizing that renting an apartment for a while is an investment in mobility and ease of lifestyle, and know that they can always buy later in life.

There are a variety of cheeses that pair very well with beer. For instance blue cheese goes very well with an IPA. For the end, chocolate and stout go great together as do raspberries.

While I have no problem with wallpaper in the kitchen in general, the photos above are WAY to much for me. That pattern is just so dominating it's making my eyeballs hurt!

I live in one half of a duplex so when my upstairs neighbor is gone I bring in his mail/packages for him and set them on his back (inside) steps. It's kinda nice knowing we have a built-in person who can just pop in for feeding the cat too!

The first picture looks great but in general I think it's kinda stupid. Anyone who actually uses their wood fireplace on a regular basis knows that all that wood is kind of dirty & it usually has bugs in it. Keeping a basket or tin bucket with a few logs on hand is okay because then you're maybe only bringing in 2-4 spiders at a time. But stacks like that give them a nice place to hatch their eggs! And then blamo! Spider city!

I'm not saying they wouldn't taste good, but those photos are so raunchy to me! Talk about unappetizing!

As a girl I played with legos all the time with my brother and I never thought of them as a boys only toy. It's true I often built little houses & stuck the little plastic flowers next to the picket fence, but maybe that's why I went to college for construction management and have a strong appreciation for architecture? I do remember wanting to have a "girl" lego man. And actually I recall us having one or two little plastic "wigs" that instantly changed a boy pirate into a girl pirate and that was enough for me. My biggest problem with these new pastel legos is that it will reduce the amount of co-ed play between boys and girls. I always have felt that Legos are a toy that boys and girls can successfully interaction with TOGETHER. But most boys will segregate themselves from any pastel pink toys. Sad.

I agree, 1-2 inches off the floor is good.

If you have a spot to do it, dried up christmas trees make for a mighty fun bonfire! We usually grab some friends and some drinks and do that. :)

Order something from Midwest Supplies. They are great (my husband worked there for a long time). They have a variety of good kits, books, & ingredients. The kits all come with a dvd instructional I believe. They are really good about quickly handling customer service/shipping issues too should a problem arise.

Oh and cook dishes with coconut milk! Again it is super high calorie but a natural food item. Also yummy!

Avocados and high in calories & in healthy fats and not sugary. Also super yummy on toast as well as in salads, guacamole, sandwiches, etc. Not a total solution but it should help!

Yeah I was just picturing that thing wobbling from a giant snowy Minnesota wind. Neat concept for mild climates though.

This should be the most basic rule(& hopefully is to anyone reading AT) but turn the TV/Wii OFF for the party and just have music. The WORST parties are ones where a few men are glued to a football game like zombies, half the other men are watching uninterested for lack of better conversation, and the women get annexed to the kitchen. At least that's how some family holiday parties were when I was growing up. Thank god those days are behind me!

I got a great vintage punchbowl at a thrift store for about $6 and I always see more. I do love the sleek modern styles though!

Oh for petes sake just let the kids drink their chocolate milk at school and then DON'T give them sugar sodas & such at home. Once a day isn't going to hurt. And if it's that bad, why not get the school board together to select a less damaging brand of chocolate milk. Actually I remember often choosing not to get the chocolate milk because the Kemps milk always had this gross choc-o-grit in it. Maybe we should give them chocolate milk that tastes disgusting? ;)
