I gave some tonic syrup as a birthday gift a few months ago, and I just packed it up in a ball jar with some ribbon on top. That's also how I keep mine. I don't have trouble pouring it to measure, and the jars are easy to find in stores and online. Hi Jen, I found a few recipes in Turkish, but they're somewhat vague so you'll have to use your memories and intuition. I also see it called piliç şerazat (scheherazade chicken) and described as "marinated grilled chicken, layered with baked potato & beetroot served with a mushroom sauce." The recipe translation is as follows: grill 1 chicken shish (skewer), 1 drumstick, 2 wings, and 1 cutlet for 10 minutes with kaşar cheese (also known as kasseri, look for it in middle eastern grocers) and mushrooms (this part might actually be a soup mix - the recipes are unclear). If you don't want to commit to window bars for safety or aesthetic reasons, you can install screws in your window frames to prevent them from being opened all the way. It might not be the sturdiest solution, but if the window is visible from the street or adjoining backyards would-be burglars might not want to stay outside fiddling. Although I appreciate the look of reusable egg crates, they're much better as serving pieces than as a storage solution - Alton Brown has said on his show that raw eggs should be kept covered, in the containers they came in. Can't wait to try this - if you're in the NY area, Ronnybrook dairies sells low-temperature pasteurized milk. It's a bit pricey, but I'm willing to splurge in order to make fresh cheese. You can also use the leftover whey to make ricotta. I haven't tried it personally, but there's a recipe at Serious Eats.
