We have a platform bed -- mattress but no box spring. How do we keep the coverlet looking neat? It's a thin comforter thingy, not fluffy and thick, more like a thick blanket. I do hospital corners on the bottom but can't bring myself to tuck in the comforter along the sides of the bed every morning. I love the way it looks with the sides tucked in, but it's a pain to do that EVERY SINGLE DAY. The coverlet won't stay in place just draped over the bed, so tucking in somewhere is a must. If I could solve this problem, I'd be so happy! Your Biggest Bedroom Problems?? 2013 Reader Forum |

"Baby's First Christmas" ornaments. We received four the year my son was born, and I thought they were nice but kind of silly. Now that my son is six, I totally get it. He had a BALL decorating the tree this year because there were these ornaments that existed solely because of him. He oohed and aahed over how "old" these ornaments were and treated them like precious historic artifacts. He especially loved the two that had slots for baby pictures -- he had a great time looking at them as we hung them up, and he's showed them off proudly to visitors since then. It's sweet and funny. I'm actually quite unhappy that a poster telling you to be brave seems to imply you need weaponry to do so. Be Brave by Kelli Murray On the Wall |

The light came out pretty cool looking, I admit, but the title is "Make Your Own Mad Men Swag Light." Usually, when an article tells me to make something, I think I'm getting instructions, not just "look at my light and my supply list and good luck!" Make Your Own Mad Men Swag Light |

I applaud the upcycling here, and the concept of a dedicated art space for children. Seriously wonderful. But Ohdeedoh is an offshoot of Apartment Therapy, which is a DESIGN blog. I understand that making something with your own two hands is to be rewarded, I understand that not everything is going to look like a magazine cover or a catalog spread. But this art station is extremely cluttered. And with all the different colors and materials and sizes of objects attached to it, it's visually unappealing. So what I'm asking -- is the goal here to show us EVERYTHING that people make or is the goal to show us inspirational projects and ideas? Because this only fits in the former category, not the latter. Before & After: Crib Art Station |

I got so involved in looking at the bear that I really didn't look at the house at all. The only bit of the house itself that I remember is the bear-free shot of the outside. So while it is attention-getting, I don't know how effective it is at actually showing off the house. Staging A House Sale With Toys |

I love the new look, but I'm in the "please install a hand rail" club. I just tumbled down my dad's steps a month ago -- only the bottom three! -- and it took me a good while to feel completely healed. Haven't taken stairs without holding on since. LOVE this. I loved my Spirograph as a kid (although I hated the football one too, @jmorris26 -- but I'd blocked it out!). My son's birthday is next month and he'd go bananas for this. Hypotrochoid Art Set |

I wasn't much of an artist as a kid, but I wrote like mad. Stories, poems, plays, you name it. I have been given lots of lovely blank books over the years, and hardly any of them get used -- I'm always too afraid to mar a beautiful blank book and all its possibilities with just any old notes and writing and thoughts. I always think I need to have grand ideas, and, in waiting for them, the books go unused. Just something to consider with your little writers and artists. Carrie here. Thank you all so very much! These are fantastic ideas -- I knew you all would have the best tips. I'm having a good time exploring all these different options. That whole thing looks dangerously top-heavy. Those legs don't look sturdy enough for the baby who has just learned to kick HARD or who has the wiggles. Nor do they look stable enough for babies at floor level who want to pull up to standing or climb. The Gloob: The Multi-Purpose Small Space Saver |

I think the closet area in the bedroom is your best bet. Get an armoire or some other kind of furniture to serve as a closet for the bedroom, then use the closet space for baby. Or see about using that space marked "M"? I haven't a clue what that is, but if you could close off the exterior door and open it up from the bedroom, that might work.
