Okay, I confess to being the weirdo that loves folding laundry (think origami). My napkins are made from thin cotton batik that hides stains and folds nearly wrinkle free even if they have cooled down from drying. They are festive and not very expensive to make.

This is a very timely (no pun intended) post for me as I have been shopping for a timer since my ever-so-cute but worthless kikkerland timer (similar the one featured above) gave up the ghost. Can anyone recommend a reliable brand? I know that Lux used to be excellent, but they have earned a bad rep for their recent products.

Formidable! I was just there last week enjoying a cardamom white tea latte from a beautiful, handmade, ceramic cup.
The tea, the staff, and the ambiance are all wonderful

I hate to lambast you when so many others have already, but I too was shocked by your comments.
I think that its worth pointing out that your guests could feel equally snubbed that you are not preparing the food that you are serving. Still, I am sure that they are grateful for the invitation and opportunity to fellowship. Take a lesson from them and accept the flowers with gratitude.

Many dish soap labels warn that they are not to be mixed with bleach. Apparently the combination of the two creates something noxious.

I personally never use bleach for any reason. Vinegar, baking soda (as mentioned by others) and hydrogen peroxide are all natural alternatives. I even use peroxide in my laundry as a bleach alternative and it works wonderfully.

Very nice. I just purchased my third (annual) board from my husband's high school alma mater at their yearly "tech show". Not only are the boards lovely (and very similar to the ones shown) but they alos have great value to me because they were made with care by a student learning a skill that they can use for life.

I whole-heartedly agree with femmekke830! If Clorox ( and others) can make a green line, then why not just make all of their products non-toxic? I steer clear of those companies that are just trying to capture market share of the (not so) new green market.

That being said, I make some of my own cleaners (incl. laundry soap) but am a huge fan of Ecover's laundry stain remover and cream scrub. I also have a lot of love for Dr. Bronner's hemp soap.

I certainly understand the appeal of IKEA. They have a darn good design team that makes that store pop and their items are unique. My first trip there 14 years ago left me breathless.
As i have read more and understand the repercussions of mass production on the environment and the health of individuals in places like China, the glow has worn off. I wouldn't, however, single out IKEA. Many of the major retailers shelves are filled with mass produced, cheaply made junque. We have become stuff addicted and stores are the dealers.

Too funny. Earlier this year my husband mentioned that we don't eat enough cake so he decreed that, "we shall have cake night once a month." We decided to invite another couple (fellow cake enthusiasts) and now share cake and board games monthly. Who says one needs a special occassion? Good for you !
