speaking of Klimt, someone should tell the teapot company that that image is based on the "Kiss", it's not a mother and child... heavens !!!

Anything with a Klimt painting on it must be banned, unless its painted by Klimt himself and hanging in a frame on the wall.

Will we ever get tired of things made out of discarded shipping material?
Hopefully, yes. The sooner, the better

I agree with this... I can understand why some people like upcycled pallets, and this example is well made but personally anything made out of those reminds me of my student years. Pallet made furniture goes along with the industrial spool table, the wine bottle candlestick with all the melted wax on it that everyone found awesome, shelves made of cinder blocks and planks, and plexiglass store display structures found in the trash...

I agree with the Regretsy aspect (at least in the pictures)... also a question, which comes to me on other lampshade redos when the material is removed and the frame used bare... it doesn't really "shade" much anymore does it??

Good Questions

excluding the computer...

-coffee machine & kettle (a gorgeous Michael Graves one, birthday present)
-the notebook next to the phone that has a space for the pen inside of it, and always a pen
-Danish water carafe, that's designed to hold classic duralex glasses.
-the trays, a plastic one purchased at a sale, and a mid-century one I repainted. I use them every day in lieu of a table set.
-the ugly cheap saucepan I bought in 1997 when I was a student and is still fine for use. I actually never really thought about it until now...I use it every day. Maybe I'll change it if I leave but it ans the old 1980 Visionware saucepan that was my mothers are enough for my cooking needs. I guess my utensils are ugly... I'll probably change them someday when I have a big beatiful pad..... *sigh*

I'd like them more in another color... maybe painted black? Not very original I know but I'm not that fond of the "antiqued" brass look. Nice idea anyhow !

Is It Still Called An End Table If It's Made From Lamps?

I agree with design_love about the "1983" feel, especially in the living room (the chairs, the coffe table, the glossy black wall and Deco revival fireplace and what seem in the pictures as pastel/beige tones on the upholstry and rug). Strangely the feeling I have is that the rooms want to look glamourous but somehow don't really get there... The kitchen and bathroom are nice but have no particular originality, and the painted mural in the bedroom looks cheesy, sorry to say this. The ones in the kid's room are way more interesting.
That said I love the bedroom furniture (bed and what looks like a chest of drawers).

One thing if you have desks, chests or cupboards that can be locked, and that you're fond of for any reason, no matter what you keep inside them *don't leave them locked* ! Burglars generally break anything open with a crowbar to see what's inside, so not only are things stolen, your furniture can also end up by being damaged.

For the violated feeling, I agree time is the best remedy, you need to reassociate your pad with good moments. Try rearranging furniture or redecorating to have a somewhat new setting, and throw a big party with all the poeple you love.

those lamps have actually a very elegant shape... sure they were fashionable circa 1983 but the shape itself is close to very ancient chinese vases and is actually quite timeless. The shade was the dated part. Nice simple job :-)

Also check the spice rack... I used to always buy tons of spices for cooking and sometimes they were used only once or twice. When I last looked at everything many of the less used bottles and canisters were well beyond their best before date...
Otherwise, I'm still hesitant about my old university class papers and binders though. They're stocked in boxes under the bed Although I haven't looked at them in almost 10 years, I still hang on to them but when I think of the work they meant back then...
