I find curtains to be dust and pet hair magnets. This is evidenced when you actually shift/adjust them on the window to filter light. So then what happens? They stay stationary. If I don't move them, I won't huff dust. I suppose I could vacuum them weekly but ain't nobody got time for that. Apartment Therapy on Covering Your Windows Renovation Diary |

Designasaur, that's a neat concept, but it's not more environmentally friendly. Cardboard by nature is a renewable product, and totally reusable. Also, factor in the carbon emissions of the additional logistics of delivery and collections and, well, I think it's safe to say the plastic boxes are CONVENIENT (and I would probably do the same!). Thanks for the replies and advice. I blame Rustoleum. I painted an inventory desk and shelf that I bought at an industrial supply two years ago. I use them in my loft office, so wanted them to be statement pieces - aka quality. Never have I ever sat on my impatient hands like I did on this project. I even wrapped the pieces when I reassembled (it's the keyless bolt system) with microfiber dusting rags, and tapped into place using a rubber mallet. In the end, it doesn't really matter, as eventually you learn to look past these things. I will say that using the Minwax stain + polyurethane combination product in ebony on the particle board shelves produced a really great result. 2 coats with fine grain sanding in between. Can run the same microfiber dust rag over it with zero snags. How To Spray Paint Metal Furniture Apartment Therapy Tutorials |

I love the re-finish, the fabric, and certainly the quality turnout. A+ on all 3 individual efforts. Collectively, however, it only gets a silver medal. Why? I think the print on the fabric eclipses the architecture of the chair. The result is a little bit of a visual assault. I am with you in the spirit of putting a fresh, modern spin on a vintage - especially MCM - piece. And it's hard to gauge the outcome. It's like skinny jeans on men over 40. They either work or they don't. Before & After: Erin's Chair Refresh on a Budget |

I do like the idea of a solid/mostly glass door, and I think the "eclectic" dub gives you lots of options. I would, however, look for something within the Craftsman genre/era. I had to regret on a friend's upcoming wedding in Tulsa, and now I'm kicking myself. It might be worth reconsidering and driving the 10 hours from Alabama in a pickup truck to take that MCM door off your hands! Front Door Style Suggestions for 1920's Home? Good Questions |

Funny this post was added - I searched Google before lunch for tips. I have recently painted several metal objects, following instructions to the letter (sanding, washing, cleaning, drying), using metal-etching primer and enamel spray paint. I let cure for 4 days and, still, paint chips easily. Thoughts? How To Spray Paint Metal Furniture Apartment Therapy Tutorials |

Great tip! I had one break recently - a perfect-ish arch from the top on one side. I flipped it over and hid it behind the canna lilies for my garden toad. Haven't seen him since. :D Gardening Tip: Use Old Terracotta Pots For Plant Drainage |

Tess, I could have written your post for you ... eerie! (Are you sure we didn't grow up together?) Only in the past 2 years, since I've moved into my home, have I settled enough to appreciate background noise. I absolutely can't sleep with it, but if I'm doing a project indoors that doesn't involve power tools, I will either listenwatch a program, or utilize the XM radio channels on my DirecTV. I love the tile-top table. I actually did the same thing several years ago to a small MCM coffee table my grandmother gave me. I use it as a plant stand in my bedroom and love it like whoa. A note of caution on that regard, if pursuing this type of table for legit outdoor use (uncovered), make sure you use a tile + mortar/grout designed for exterior use. 5 DIY Tables for Outdoor Use |

Virginia Grayson for office! And also, quality counts when it comes to construction of natural fiber rugs. As a textile, the weave is difficult to sew/finish to precise dimensions. I like to look for rugs with a latex (or similar) backing, and that are finished as "on square" as possible. Also, be warned: if you have a cat your new rug will also become its new scratching post. You will not win this battle. I don't have a cat now, but when I did ... What Determines Value/Price Point of Natural Fiber Rugs? Good Questions |

I LOVE what you've done with the wall to ceiling color transition, as well as the overall palette and layout. I also love your "get in there" zest, which I share - sometimes to my detriment. It is possible, actually, to bungle your no-grout-lines white subway tile wall project. Ask me how I know. :D But with a sweep of white grout, it magically disappears. Then you spend every night staring at the wall thinking, "You had the 1/8" spacers, why didn't you use them?" Andi's Kitchen: At Long Last, Tile Renovation Diary |
