Can You ID This Garbage-Day Find? Good Questions
5/4/12 5:30 PM

I don't think this discussion is ridiculous, there's certainly merit in examining the ideas behind ideas. "Ridiculous" is a dismissive, shaming word, used to shut people up. But I don't think it's equal to wearing blackface, either. While there's nothing to be learned from wearing blackface, there are definite benefits to learning about all types of dwellings. If we can resist the temptation of hyperbole, we can probably all learn to understand one another better, and be compassionate.

For my family personally, part of our family heritage, and specifically tipi dwellers. I still think it can be a good or a bad thing, fully depending upon the guidance of the parents or caregivers involved.

I am also Native people, and I don't quite get the outrage. A teepee is a specific tent shape. Who are you to assume there's no education going along with it? Why not use it as a teaching tool for kids? You have to start somewhere. Learning about the ways people live or have lived has to start somewhere. Or you could spend your time being outraged and assuming the worst of people on the internet....

I'm glad to see this post, as it reaffirms what I'm doing with my own daughter. I tell her that not only is it everyone in the family's responsibility to take care of our home, but it's also mine to make sure she knows how to take care of her own home, one day. Also, when she helps out, it frees us up to do more AT projects in the house! I think this kind of discussion certainly has its place among others about caring for a home. Teaching our families how to do it is part of the whole.

Field Day, although it was really hard to choose. I found myself mixing them in with my current bed linens, and they all work. But I am a sucker for flowers.

Interesting! I just did the opposite, in that I converted my second bathroom into a closet, so I could convert the walk-in into a sewing room.

Has absolutely beautiful, funky, custom fabric shades that would be perfect for that lamp. I've seen them in many orange/corals/reds.

WELL! Since I broke my pelvis giving birth, I have only been able to lift my Eureka boss lite. It died last week, and the dust bunnies, in their cat hair coats, are going to take over. Please send help!
