For years when I moved around a lot, my mom would remind me to paint my bedroom a "warm color that would look good against my skin." To her chagrin, I'd promptly paint my bedroom a shade of green or blue. I think she always hoped that I'd find a nice man who would appreciate my appearance in its best light. I'm 42 now and recently bought what I expect to be my "forever home". The previous owners had recently painted the bedroom walls a light apricot that I don't mind, so I decided to leave it. My mom was pleased and mentioned the skin thing again. This time I told her that I don't care how I look in my bedroom. I care how my bedroom looks to me. She let it go. Maybe she'd given up. Or, maybe she finally understood.

I meant AT. I need to go to bed ;)

Baby Boomers are of the generation born right after World War II. Gen X'ers are the children of Baby Boomers. That's my understanding of Gen X, anyway.

Putting aside the silly quotes and videos made by these young designers--their textiles are very pretty.

C.Richelle, I want to a get a parrot too! But not a baby, although they are adorable. Parrots can live 60 years or more, so they often outlive their owners. Think about adopting a grown parrot in need. You can find beautiful adult parrots on petfinder.com. I've known people who have adopted adult parrots and were able to bond with them very well.

I like the lamp and agree it's a find, but pbsteele that is too funny. Maybe it's more of a guy lamp;)

Surfjack--where did you get the upholstered headboard with slipcover?

Can anyone recommend slippers that are especially good for muffling footsteps? I'm moving into a co-op apartment soon and want to start off on the "right foot" with my downstairs neighbors.

I understand that Apartment Therapy needs to keep evolving to capture new readers. But it used to be about apartment living with a focus on how to make apartment life more livable. I'm disappointed to see a trend toward articles about large expensive houses a la House Beautiful or HGTV.
