Yep, they are too expensive for me too and $60 for a cardboard box is somewhat ridiculus - but if they inspire DIY solutions, isn't it a good thing to post them? Inspiration is what AT is for, right?

Your way of decorating with items that remind you of your brother seems very natural to me. I also wanted to say that that parakeet print is really accomplished!

Hi FG - I love those reusable heat pillows too. If they don't warm up so much any more, the rice (wheat, barley, cherry pits...) are too dried out from reheating. Just put a cup of water in the microwave with the heat pillow and the water steam will "power it up" again (without making it damp).

This is great! On several levels.

It is an awesome design with great details.

It's cardboard and easy to dissemble when the girls grow out of it.

The mom did it together with her daughter! It bothers me that moms do those elaborate doll house designs and kitchen projects without apparent participating from the kid it is made for. They are hogging all the fun and creativity for themselves and the kids loose out even though they get a cute present at the end. In my opinion!

Again - this is great!

Cute! The clock would work for adults too!

Because of the invasiveness of the big grey squirrels here on the west coast, those guys are a red flag for many people here.

If you are living in the US, you would only see hedgehogs in the pet store.

When I had a pantry with wire shelves like you do (and which I am missing a lot in my new place!), things tended to topple over all the time until I placed plastic placemats on the shelves. It made a big difference.

Sorry to be negative - but I really agree with anotherjen. This is a lot of plastic crap. The sleds are fine and useful, maybe the inflatable house, but everything else? Having a kit to make snow men (and snow everything else), a snow ball maker? That totally defeats the purpose.

Just this morning I was looking at my microwave and wondering if there are "stylish" ones out there. Having one that fits in a corner would be ideal for me. Mine is angeled across the corner right now.

From your post, I am assuming that you own the house.

If you have the funds, I would change the carpeting to something dark (carpet or hardwood) and paint the ceiling and the slanting parts a nice bright warm white. I have learned this from a professional - a dark floor and a light ceiling make a room look bigger, a light carpet can make a room look lower than it is. If you can't replace the carpet (now), you could think of an area rug.

The lower straight part of the walls and the wall with the window you can than paint in one of the lovely colors the others propose.

I would also consider a floor length curtain for the window to give it more prominence and for a feminine scrumptious look. I can't tell from the picture, but if you can I would suggest to pull the bed away from the window wall and space it with another bedside table (I don't think bed side tables have to be same necessary, they just have to match in same way).

Good luck! Creating your own space is a good way to work through your life changes.

Looks great. I assume they put on the stool to have a dark background - not as a general recommendation. A dish would be a good idea.

I don't think that a tea light would work - the flame would be too high up and scorch the the rind.

I will try it soon!

The texture and squishyness would be a nice contrast to your sofa and high chairs but the color is wrong. They would need to be either one of the colors of your sofa/chairs or a real contrasting color.

It looks well laid out - it's about the size of my dorm/apt in college but with better space use. A desk AND a dining table! Pure luxury. The hanging wine glasses are fun too.

Re: cottage or apartment building - I agree with the previous posters. If you have "left-over" space like in the picture, it has a quirky charm - if it were mine, it would gain a lot of flower pots quickly outside. But it would be more efficient and give a greater feeling of safety combined into a bigger buildilng.

That is a great way to do chevrons (not my favorite trend usually). I really like the pattern generated by the glossy and matte paint. Well executed!

Thanks for posting this. Amazing art.

I don't agree with calling salt 'mundane' though. Even if it's easily and cheaply available to us right now.

I totally agree with bright white. Adding blues or aquas with a shower curtain would look really crisp then.

Beautiful. Impeccable taste. Great, calm, but not boring colors. Of the furniture I like especially the tweed/felt (?) eared armchair and the glass-fronted bookshelf in the living room.
