Hi everyone! Thanks for all the advice! I will definitely look into some of the more cost effective filter options. On a different topic, I feed my dog grain-free Fromm -- at the risk of going off on a dog food tangent, is there a better brand out there?

So I don't know if I have really smart fruit flies or if I am just not all that smart -- but to get rid of my ff, I tried the apple cider vinegar method, soap method, fruit-in-container-plastic-wrap-holes method, and pretty much every other method touted on the internet.

After weeks of epic battles (in which I was defeated -- every time), I finally perfected my method:

Raid fly glue traps + super cheap, super sweet wine (thankfully, there's a correlation).

The Raid fly glue trap sticks have these wonderful little plastic cup thingies on each end. I poured the crappy wine into the cup thingies and overnight there was just a ff massacre. I must have caught at least 50 of those guys.

Since then, no problem.
