Don't scoff at the idea of lifting your bed up- via building a little platform or milk creates.
If you get a little step stool it could either live under the bed or be used as additional seating.
Definitely hang as much as possible- from the ceiling if not the walls.
They now make TEMPORARY wallpaper!! It's not cheap, but a great solution if you're switching rooms every year & eventually finding an apartment. It sticks to the walls just like cling on sticker. I think you can even paint of of them.
White Christmas lights aren't tacky, they're "mood lighting".
