A man came to my apartment door saying that the residents are getting the LA Times for free and all they ask is that we tip the paper boy 50 cents/week. When I asked how I would get the tip money to the boy, he said, "well it comes to $26 per year and you can give it to me now..." Unless your child has a medical condition, he is not going to starve himself. I'm a nanny and I've witnessed some appalling things parents do to get their children to eat. The main one I see is distracting the kids while shoving food into their mouths. I think the healthier thing to do is to teach them to make the decision to eat and how much, even if they go hungry occasionally. Ideally, everyone in the house at the time should sit down at the table for each meal (at the same time) with a healthy, balanced meal in front of them (everyone gets the same food). No coaxing or distracting or even talking about the food. Everyone at the table decides how much and what they eat and feeds themselves. If someone decides not to eat or not to eat enough, they have to wait until the next meal or snack (all food consumed at table). Eventually they will learn the proper amount to eat, even if they have to eat the veggies so they don't get hungry before the next meal. And the earlier you start, the easier it will be. Like coffeebuzz said, buying organic isn't just about not putting pesticides in your own body. It's also about the chemicals put into the environment and that the farmers are breathing in on a daily basis. If the government subsidized organic farms, organic wouldn't have to be more expensive and everyone could buy organic. As a result, more farms would switch to organic which would be better for the workers and the environment. This is what I thought they should start doing with movies. I would love to just plug one of these right into my DVR so I could access the movie from my DVR and use my DVR remote which has convenience forward-30-seconds and back-8-seconds buttons which is way easier than rewinding with a DVD player remote. I agree on buying high quality towels because they'll last forever. But sheets can get ruined so easily, I go for Target and TJ Maxx for cheap sheets. And if they don't get holes or stains in them, they can get super soft. I have cheap pillowcases from Delia's that are 7 years old and they feel like butter. Wow, I just bought a Haba toy for my nephew and I was looking at the eyes and couldn't tell if they were secured on well. It's not on the recall list but I'm not going to take the risk. Returning it. Unfortunately, my cat's favorite toy is the cap to my USB drive. I have to be careful not to leave it out. And my cat's favorite place to sleep is on the keyboard of my laptop when I forget to close it. I can walk away from it for 15 seconds and she's on it already. And then my computer starts going crazy. She always turns "narrator" on which I don't even know how to do and it makes my computer start talking. I moved an Ikea bed by disassembling it. Some of the dowels were stuck in it and were broken off in transport. Actually, the whole thing got pretty scratched beaten up.
