With kids running around, we didn't commit to CFLs due to amount of times our kids knocked over a lamp and broke a bulb. (Mercury!) We do have a few, but only in fixtures that can not be knocked over. I agree with Angelinethebaker...I need the light equivalent of 60 or 75 watts for reading.

These things get all dented and ugly. There are some beautiful wood rattles with food safe oil to seal them on Etsy. (only $10!)

We've got a reclaimed wood table, and it's doing well. We have restained and sealed it, but it's going strong.

Wow, they are all so organized- I can only aspire... Muesli- the reason the kids have so many clothes is because they constantly get soiled. (Babies can go through 3 outfits in one day.) Also, since the little ones grow so fast, you need to have the next size on hand. My kids are 8 and 10 and and am overhauling the closets as we speak. I have to admit, I am not a fan of being able to see inside the closet and prefer doors- but perhaps that due to the state of our current closets. :)

Oh my, I remember this well. My Dad used to bring my sister and I into work when we were little on a Saturday and let us load the reels. I remember the muffled sound of the climate controlled room. We also had plenty of scrape paper like this to draw on. Just the other week I showed him a micro sd card with 8 movies on it and he was amazed at how far we've come.

I think it depends on the kid. My son has always gotten excited about books. So even at a young age of say 4, he would shake with excitement if he got a Barnes and Noble gift card. My relatives ask what the kids want, and I tell them a few different things to choose from. I have to say my kids are always excited for gift cards, and the chance to pick out just what they want. They go on a shopping trip, and add up how much these two things would be so they are using their math skills, yet feel like a big person using the card. The other gift card they love is movie theatre cards, since it's expensive to go. I always remind them that these cards were from Grammy when we use them. Often times they will call Grammy after the movie and thank her again.

We loved this theme too. My 8 year old daughter wanted my husband to make crepes for her party so that's how we settled on the theme. I posted about it on my blog if anyone needs some ideas.

Love this idea, but really, a 20 watt equivalent? What would you use that for? What would be really nice is an LED bulb that sheds light down when it is in a normal lamp. Most have plastic on the bottom half of the round area of the bulb, which means most of the light goes up. Not good for reading by a lamp.

Great idea with the LED. I just bought one at Home Depot, a 40 watt equivalent for only $9.97. These work best when aiming down, as the sloped part of the bulb by the neck does not illuminate.

We went from crib directly to a twin bed. Once they were big enough, the kids wanted "a big kid beg" and the toddler bed wasn't that. We started with a twin mattress on the floor. Also, we had the kids 2 years apart, so the baby needed the crib when our toddler needed a bed, so we would of had to buy another crib if we bought a convertible crib. That just didn't make sense for us since we were only having two kids.

My poor husband will be very upset that I found this post. Now he has another "to do" task. We can always use more storage in our old farmhouse!

I love the idea to have the sounds of bugs playing during the party! I can just imagine the kids with their little safari hats and magnifying glasses! We had a bug party for my son too, and gave out bug/butterfly nets and pop up mesh bug containers. You can look at our version on my blog if you like...

So True! We're about to make our son's room a bigger boy room and I think it's a great idea to take pictures of the room, some of the toys he used to play with, and little details. My friend recently did this for her child's room which prompted me to do the same.

Love the Bento box idea, I may just have to do that at our next party! :) Fruit, veggies and cheese inside, packed on ice and you are set! I bet those cool veggies and fruits will be refreshing on a hot day. Plus there's no need for plates!
At my son's last party, one of his friends was allergic to peanuts, milk and eggs. I just asked his mom what he could have. We had an outdoor party and made burgers and (kosher= dairy free) dogs on the grill. She gave me the name of a brand roll that her son could have, and I just got that for everyone. Easy peasy. I also saved the labels of every food item we had for the mom to check upon arrival just to be safe. Just ask the moms and they will give you solutions.
For the folks that are not tolerant of other people, I just have to say what goes around comes around. Be nice! If everyone could just be a little nicer to people they come across each day, this world would be an even more wonderful place to be.

I found a temporary "frosting" film online. We have a bathroom window that faces the deck. It will be replaced soon, so we didn't want to spend a lot on it. This works for privacy. I would then hang a panel with a swag hook to one side. Drop it for darkening, and swag it for light.
