I will gladly take your uncool Robot Coupe off your hands.
That thing is bombproof. You can only get em at restaurant supply stores and they start at around $800. Never let it go. You probably won't ever have to.

buy some pork belly, render your own, make the best tamales, pie crusts, saute base, etc.
Butter is worse for you than home-rendered lard. Do not buy the commercial lard in the blue box. Yum.

Then we send em to you and you could post them together, as a little present to your loyal readers. I could use some home-reality commiseration every now and then.

this sounds great. For a not-so-sweet, and even easier way, cook steel cut oats, and stir in a spoonful or two of canned pumpkin puree, along with a touch of maple syrup. I love the taste of pumpkin without the usual spices one associates with pumpkin.

Noodles don't get soggy if you make your own. Basic egg noodles, run them through a pasta maker, making sheets-like lasagna pasta. I stop at the setting, "5", but you can go thinner if you want. cut them into noodle size and dust liberally with flour. I put them in after I've poached chicken, and after carrots, etc. have cooked a bit. I reheat and reheat ( I make a huge pot of these) they never get soggy, or clingy. Never Never.

All of my countertops are butcher block. I cut on them all the time. I love how they look. I wanted countertops I could USE, not ones I had to pamper. I do mineral oil them once every couple of months, but I love the scratches. This is a working kitchen. It shows, and I love it.

my mother in law inherited a Calder Mobile. She thought the all white was too drab for a baby's room, so she painted it with bright colors and and hung it over my husband's crib. (he was younger then). After the kids grew up, my smart sister in law realized what they had, and was able to strip the paint and restore it.

I always use my food processor to make pie crust. I can make in crust in about 3 minutes. I mix (using frozen butter) form dough into ball, refrigerate, roll out dough, refrigerate, then, put pie together. A cookie sheet in the preheating oven keeps the bottom crust from getting soggy.

I "harvested" 25 roosters last week. It is a very big deal to kill something. To hold a chicken in your arms and walk across a green field and place him upside down in a killing funnel that's attached to the most beautiful, fall-colored cottonwood you've ever seen, and slit his throat, well, you'd think it would get easier after the 5th or 6th one.

We were joined by curious neighbors who wanted to see and be part of where their meat came from. 20-year old boys making bad jokes and giggling--obviously so scared to do what they were about to do. I took them aside and told them they needed to take this very seriously. Maybe they just needed permission, because they were reverent and gentle.

It's an incredible amount of work. Ten of us working a solid three hours by the time all roosters were plucked, innards removed and grocery-store looking chicken was plunged into a barrel of ice-water, awaiting zip-lock bags and the freezer.

Who figures out how humane the killing cones are? The same people who tell you that one dog food tastes better then another?

Killing, unless it's a mercy killing, done with go to sleep drugs, is never humane.

This year, we poured bourbon down their throats, and they did relax. I read recently that Martha Stewart does the same thing. I also read that Temple Grandin says that it stresses the birds to hang upside down in the cones. We probably won't use them next time.

We always look for ways to do it better. And every time, with the utmost respect, we do our very best.

splendid table talked about Lambic over cardamom ice cream--make your own by softening vanilla ice cream and mixing in toasted cardamom seeds. I'd probably top with a vanilla bean and honey sour cherry compote. Yep. that's probably what I'd do.
