Under Counter Refrigerators: Yay or Nay?

love them all. We've used the both the WASARA and the Veneerware from

http://www.joannehudson.com/disposable-plates-green-dinnerware.html

The Bambu Veneerware is almost like a solid wooden plate-- and is extremely strudy... you can carry a heavy t-bone around on it without it bending or folding. The Wasara is a little closer to a paper plate (can't take as much weight) but the style is fantastic. Also the wasara has matching cups and bowl to help complete a look. It's all great!

I can't even explain how I've had the WORST luck with contractors in NYC. I'd like to know a good one too.

I can't remember where I read this (treehugger.com maybe?)... and it is most likely "greenwashing"... but somewhere I read that disposable cups had less of a carbon footprint than ceramic mugs. The paper cups are lighter and cost less in CO2 emissions to ship. The paper cups also did not require burning fossil fuels and intense electricity to be fired in a kiln once and fired again to glaze. And then if you dishwasher that ceramic cup instead of hand-wash you're using more electricity & water (water that was processed in a water treatment plant with fossil fuel generated energy). The article said something like 10000 disposable cups had the same impact as a single ceramic mug. I'd assume the same crazy logic would apply to plates.

If that's true ** AND I HIGHLY DOUBT IT ** then I'd think the best route would be to use compostable/biodegradable cups or plates when you NEED to have a paper cup or plate. At least I can help with the disposal by making a better choice than styrofoam plates.

Love the WASARA plates! You don't see many of the green disposables like that with cups and bowls. It's always just big bamboo plates. Great stuff.

I don't have a link to back this up-- but I was told once in a color theory class that despite people painting a room yellow to make them more cheery-- yellow environments actually cause aggression and there are more fights in yellow kitchens than in non-yellow kitchens... this went along with concepts of why McDonalds where orange and yellow inside (promotes hunger), why cleaning products are usually in cool colored packages and food in warm colored. Who know if it's true-- but beware!

While those ones don't look "hot" putting panels on fridges and dishwashers can look great:
