I am definitely an out the front kinda person. I lived in Italy for several years and there they have a totally different approach to privacy and personal space. I got into the habit of hanging out on my balcony and chatting with other neighbours out their balconies. When I moved back to London I used to sit out on my front step a lot and got to know loads of people in my area. It made me feel part of the neighbourhood. The #1 Reason for Hanging Out, Out Front |

I love the sense of doing those tricky, dirty, unfun household jobs in company. Fallen behind because of flu but feeling good about what I've achieved so far. Apartment Therapy's January Cure |

Avoid the tin boxes, super cute but not so practical or safe. My daughter was running carrying hers and fell over and cut her lip on it. Still has a scar across her mouth two years on. Super Tweet Lunches: Bird Bag Roundup |

Arrgghh I am afraid that visiting my house in Feb when it is still mid cure could be like visiting a friend in hospital soon after an operation, when they are conscious but still drooling. Not so pretty. Day 7: Get Your Get-Together Together - Date, Guests, Invites Apartment Therapy January Cure - Day 7 |

Had never considered it before but pretty much every painting, poster, print in our house makes me smile, especially the photo wall of family pictures going down the stairs. The only picture in the house that doesn't make me smile is a very strong red and black abstract painting over the fireplace done by an artist friend. It definitely makes me think - mainly I wonder what was making him so mad while he was creating it! Liveblogging Day 6: Art that Makes You Smile and Makes You Think Liveblogging the January Cure |

So much choice! I think this month it is going to be finding a home for the books, half finished sewing projects, random objects gathering dust on top of my chest of drawers in the bedroom. Then maybe I can display some framed family photos up there instead. Day 5: Planning a Kitchen Pegboard Liveblogging the January Cure |

Blogging about the January cure here. http://umisushimakes.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/new-year-new-house.html Am pretty overwhelmed by my list but the flower buying helped soften the blow. Liveblogging Day 1: Tara's List Liveblogging the January Cure |

The mopping, hoovering task is well timed. My son was diagnosed with asthma today and from here on in it's daily floor cleaning. Glad to be doing the first day in company - sort of. Good to find out about green cleaners too. Just walked around the house with son. His list basically says more lego for each room. Mine says rip out kitchen and start over, rip out bathroom and start over, rip out ensuite and start over. Yikes! Got my work cut out. Day 1: Make a List of Projects Apartment Therapy January Cure |

There is NOTHING you can do to make those red wine vomit tiles look good. We have the same problem only with the bonus of bouquets of flowers decorating the odd random tile. Buy a gorgeous shower curtain and bath mat in colours you love. Don't even try and coordinate and save your pennies for an eventual revamp. Anything more is like putting lipstick on a pig. My trick is to try and keep the 'public' areas looking respectable and not worry too much about the rest. We live in a really neighbourly area and people are always swinging by. When the doorbell goes I grab as much clutter as I can and sling it in the garage before opening up. Embracing the Family Mess: Striking a Balance Between Chaos and Order |

When I first met my husband he told me about the creepy scene he had discovered in a hidden room in his ground floor flat a year after moving in. He was doing some DIY and knocked a hole in the kitchen wall by mistake. He peered through and found a dark space filled with cobwebs. He got a torch, enlarged the hole and climbed through.
