The "after" is great, but $50 for just a table top (no legs, no chairs)? That doesn't sound like a 'steal' to me.

I actually don't mind the paint color. It's the faux wood paneling that doesn't work for me. It just makes me think of 1960's wood paneled rooms, which always make me cringe. But all the fixtures, towel rack, etc. are vast improvements, of course.

The new cushion is absolutely adorable, and I'm very impressed with the complete recreation of the seat! Can't stand the gray paint though.

Is it wrong that I love that 'portal' shower? It's like something right out of A Space Odyssey or Prometheus. I'd be tempted to paint the whole bathroom white with silver hardware and bask in the glory of my scifi bathroom. I can see why that might not fly in real life, though. lol.

I was recently in the market for a buffet that I had plans to refinish. I found an absolute steal on CL, so off I went in my new SUV to get it. We got it *just about* to fit into the back, mostly thanks to the athletic abilities of the seller. However, I GREATLY underestimated both the weight of the solid wood piece and my own strength. I drove around with the buffet in the back of my car for over a week before I resigned myself to having to get it out on my own. I managed to slide it onto the floor of my garage (sadly, cracking the back a bit) and covered it in a tarp. There it sat for another week, taking up coveted garage space in the midst of snowy weather before I snapped and forced my brother into indentured servitude to help me haul it up to my 2nd floor apartment. We could only just barely get it as far as the first floor landing (at an awkward angle under the stairs) before we gave up. There it sits today, an eyesore to all visitors, annoying the heck out of me. I've entertained the thought of taking it apart to bring it upstairs, then putting it back together, but what if I move? Moral of the story: don't buy anything you can't haul yourself. Even if it is a hell of a deal.

I would love this to be true if it meant IKEA was cutting down on some overhead to bring more savings to their customers! (A girl can dream, eh?)

Yeah this is a tough one. It's very unique, and looks cool when displayed open, but it's also sad to know the piano will never play again (at least not good ol' analog-style). Perhaps a creative idea aesthetically, but practically it would be too weird for me. I can see guests or even myself sitting down to play and then realizing the keys don't work. Unless the top was kept open all the time...

I think it would help to see a photo of it in situ instead of in the garage.

Inexpensive duck cloth, you say? Point me in the direction of this magical stuff because I love it! Subtle, elegant, but also modern. And on a chair that's sturdy enough to last another 60 years. Great re-do.

I guess if this is the look the owner wanted, that's great. But it looks destroyed to me.

The work put into restoring this piece is absolutely inspiring. I would have preferred a blonder stain and more interesting pulls for it myself, but there is no denying this transformation is an improvement over the original paint-splattered, stickered mess!

Though admittedly an avid ebayer, I agree with this so much. It's offensive the amount of money some thrift stores want for secondhand cheap-o furniture these days. Craigslist isn't any better.

Sexilicious! I honestly love all your choices (btw, I think it was genius to flip and move the long thin pulls to the center drawers). Loove the stain color, and the contrast between the rich brown and the black base. And hey, if Girl Scout is what you were going for with the green - you got it! Great revive.

Major upgrade. The wallpaper is easily changeable down the road when you get sick of it, so it works for now. Definitely much less drab than the before!

I do think it would be great if the cabinet from the before could be repurposed somewhere else in the house. It's stunning on its own (though not right for the bathroom space).
