I completely disagree with Colorado's statement. These mattresses are handmade using natural materials. Things cost a lot more when they are made by people with quality materials instead of mass-produced in huge factories. They will almost certainly last far longer than a $300 mattress made with toxic materials in a pollution-spewing factory using underpaid, overworked laborers. Paying more for something has nothing to do with overconsumption, especially when it lasts much longer. Production of cheap goods encourages consumption. The replacements you'll need to make up for a longer-lasting piece would make you much more of a consumer, especially if you bought more stuff with the money saved. I think it was money well spent and now they have a very nice place to enjoy. Most people outside NYC would have spent this money owning a car or 2. Before After: Renovating a Rental in Prospect Heights The New York Times | Apartment Therapy New York |

I challenge any of the expertise offered by commenters on bicycle frame design :) This frame will outlast steel and aluminum in many cases. I stopped by their booth last year at a bike show and not only are they super strong, they're also quite light. Go ahead and hit a pothole. So cool to see they make a commuter bike! Zipcar when I need one. Maybe once every month or 2. If you have a dog and need to take it somewhere you can: walk it, rent/borrow/get a Zipcar (as long as it's kenneled) or bike it. Some goes for kids. Apartment Therapy DC | Keeping a Car in the City: A Help or Hassle? |

Start introducing your roommate into design styles that you like with magazines, pictures, blogs, going to furniture stores, etc. Maybe she'll warm up to the style and get excited - especially if you're going to purchase the stuff. But yeah, the furniture is ugly for sure. Talk to her. Often. Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Good Questions: Differing Decor Between Roommates |

kitchens get dirty and are cleaned daily in my house. I would have no problem with this. Looks great and awesome use of space as long as you don't have kids, babies, dogs, etc. Apartment Therapy New York | Red Kitchen with Integrated Countertop Staircase |

You're talking about a static panoramic image. You can take pictures yourself to create a panorama, but the result of a gigapan is an interactive image so that you can zoom into the super-hi-res image. The camera is fully zoomed when it takes the pictures so you would need to take a ton of photos in order to achieve the same result, then stitch and put them into some sort of player that you can zoom in and out with. Trust me, much easier for this machine to take the hundreds or thousands of photos for you for each setup. Apartment Therapy New York | The Gigapan Epic: Detailed, High-Resolution Panorama Pictures |

I just watched a documentary on PBS called "Where Do The Children Play?" which explored both city kids and suburban kids and their surroundings affect them mentally and physically. It seemed to me that parents were more afraid to let their children play outside in the suburbs than in the city, which affected their health and their perceptions of other people. They did an experiment where groups of kids build their idea of their city around them. While the city kids got together to work in groups, the suburban kids worked alone. Also notable: the city kids made happy little people and placed them in and around the buildings and spaces, whereas the suburban children made parking lots and malls. They have reusable zip-ties which are awesome. There are little release tabs so you can use them over and over. I use them for all the cables on my cameras. Apartment Therapy Chicago | Roundup: Industrial Things We Love From ULINE |
