what is the paint color?

Again, thank you for these great comments. They are very helpful. To answer one question that came up in the last few posts, this is the only "living" room in the house--the only room where we'll have couch(es) and comfy chairs. The comments about the additional flexibility of free-standing couches and chairs have helped me make one decision--we are not going to do the sectional. I am still trying to think through options 2 and 3. I like the idea of two couches, but it may make the room seem very small.

Also, based on some of the comments, I'm thinking more about two different couches altogether. We still like the Andre a lot, but are thinking about something like the Loring as the second couch.

We don't have any thoughts yet for the corner near the TV--if we mount the TV on the wall and can minimize the extra electronics stuff, there might be room for a small chair.

dtla, I'm going to play around with the idea of the chairs facing the couch. One might fit on the left side of the TV, but the other would be to the right of the doorway.

Last night I stained our antique tiger oak pedestal table a very dark stain--Ebony, by minwax (Actually, we spent several weeks sanding it and preparing it, which is the difficult part). The dark stain does NOT affect the visibility of the tiger stripes. They still appear lighter than the rest of the wood, and only absorb a portion of the stain. We did not like the traditional oak stain, and the table looks even more unique and beautiful now, with the dark dark stain and the sort of greyish tiger stripes (they would not be grey with a dark brown stain, they would be lighter brown). If you want it stained darker, and you can take the time to prepare the mantel, then go for it.
