The environmental damage from even millions of little plastic cups pales in comparison to the millions of other types of waste. Have you ever worked retail? Every single product sold in a clothing store comes in individually wrapped plastic bag. Imagine a huge chain with hundreds of products in multiple sizes and colors in one season. That's way worse.

That said, I prefer to use a french press or just drip coffee for regular cup since its not complicated. But the Nespresso looks like a good option for espresso based drinks. If you consider the drive to Starbucks (or even a local cafe) in your environmental impact, one plastic cup is not so bad.

Or you can turn off your computer....or do it at the beginning or end of the day when its off anyways. I really think people shouldn't download pointless "utilities" on to their comps. If you actually spill something, you should turn off or unplug the keyboard.

I'm not a fan of oreos but I want to try the flavored straws. Those look cool. And even my dad eats straws and wafers and he doesn't really eat anything snack wise.

Thumbs up on new year and new look. It will take getting used to but when the posts are good, its worth it.

Just one question: Will I get all the posts in Google reader? It says not all the posts will end up in the main page so I can only guess that means I won't get all the posts in google reader. If we are not getting all the posts, which sections will be updated separately?

You are talking about LTE Advanced speeds which is not deployed anywhere as its so new, it's only finalized this year.

What At&T etc. are implementing is regular LTE which peaks at something like 300Mb/s download and 75Mb/s upload (NOT officially 4G as 4G actually defined as peak 1Gb/s speed). LTE and LTE Advanced are not the same thing.

Actually all these are basically 3.5G...But they probably can't charge as much for that.

No one seems to point out the most important thing: know the prices in the area you want to buy in. And specifically know the prices on the street you want to buy in comparison to other streets (different streets can be more desirable and sell faster). House inspections and mortgage help are important but getting the buying price right is the most important. Do not get into a bidding war unless you live in a place like SF or NYC or Vancouver where you should look at houses 10-25% lower than what you can personally because bidding wars are the norm. And don't get overemotional over the "perfect" house. You will overpay and it will no longer be the perfect house when you can't afford it or you never recoup what you paid.

I would love the Carrie closet or Jenna Lyon's (#2) room but I just have a regular closet. I have been the same size for over 10 years. I have a lot of clothes and I love fashion. It would make me happy to be able to see my clothes/shoes/bags in place that really makes them look even better.

"I see gigantic closets like this and I wonder about people who aren't happy unless they have gigantic, expensive wardrobes to match. I've known quite a few people who are completely obsessed by clothes and shopping, and drool over closets like these. That kind of obsessions seems very shallow to me." These kinds of comments really annoy me. I like designer clothes and I like beautiful things. Often designer clothes are beautiful things. I make enough money/save up to buy it. That makes me no more shallow than some who spends tons of money on A/V equipment, MCM furniture, skis or multiple vacations to the same Mexico resort to have margaritas each year. Have you been to the Alexander McQueen exhibit or the Bata shoe museum? Fashion is quite most similar to interior design, architecture and furniture. It has to have creativity, design and function.

"The building itself has undergone endless cosmetic transformations throughout the centuries, so the architects carefully exposed the original building structure and restored it where necessary." I think its good that some rich people can actually restore a piece of history. Realistically most of us can never afford to do a proper job of restoring a rundown, badly treated building. I don't think this is gentrification but restoration. It's not like they tore the building down and built a high-rise condo with a Starbucks on the side. This is definitely better than some rich person building a faux French chateau McMansion in the suburbs.

I like the modern furniture, it makes it look fresh rather than a movie set for a historical film. However, I also think its undersized, particularly in the living room (?).

Opening a secondary gmail account is a bad idea imo. Say you set up automatical log-in to your google calendar or reader or gmail, then you will have to log out to get to your "junk" (aka groupon, hotel, gilte etc emails) account. Then you have to re-log in to your main acct etc.

And don't forget encylopedias on CD-rom (which I thought was so cool for schoolwork)! Or those math question games on floppy disc where you type in the answer before the math equation hits the bottom of the screen.

In any event, what relevance does this have to the appreciation of a living space? > that's exactly the point...people are asking why they are so prevalent in the photos when its a house tour. At least a quarter of the photos have them in it and some are just photos of them on the bed but you can't see the furniture or the room.

But overall its a great place and I love the green striped cloth that covers the makeshift closet. It's such a great idea for a studio, I will definitely try to recreate that.

"where has the western low fat diet got us? obesity, diabetes, chronic disease." Let's be realistic, people who are obese, have diabetes and chronic diseases are not on a low fat diet. Just because two situations co-exist does not mean they are related or causal. If people were to faithfully follow any diet, they will lose weight and eliminate many health issues. Problem is that no diet lasts forever.

Also, people seem to forget that the life expectancy 100 years ago was far shorter than it is now. You couldn't get a lot of diseases because no one lived long enough to get it (from google: in 1911 men lived to 50 and women to 54). Plus who is going to diagnose that sick people had clogged arteries?

I think its good to use everything in moderation. I cook with butter, canola oil, olive oil and grape seed oil (tried it recently and liked it). Don't have too much of any of them. Also, where would a person get avocado oil? It sounds interesting...and expensive. Avocados are $1.50+ each where I live.

One of my friend's said I'm the only female he actually liked shopping with. As in, I don't try on everything in the store, I try things on quickly and I use the "if I don't have the have-to-have-it-or-I'll-die urge, I'm not getting it today" quick decision tool. I strictly follow that when in Ikea.

I wish I had gone back to see the show a second time. It is amazing. I have also been to the Superheroes exhibit and it does not compare to this one.

I really recommend getting the book even if you did not visit the exhibit. It is well worth it. I got the membership email that discussed how they printed so many test runs for each page. The Met wanted to ensure that each image is true to the original by using different inks and papers until they achieved a true picture when printed on a mass scale.

ok so the lesson from all these posts is to hire movers and a lawyer in the city you currently live in and one in the city you plan to move to. This way, you can be prepared to sue.

I thought the big white wall was cool because the light fixture hanging over the table seemed to blend in yet be emphasized by the white wall. I wouldn't live here but its such a cool place.

kat88 - price difference probably due to economies of scale...canola oil will not cost $0.59 for half a cup etc.

I've never had home-made mayo but I'm very curious to taste the difference. I'm going to try to make it this weekend.

Well even the knockoff versions aren't cheap for much of the MCM furniture and I don't think an used official Eames chair is affordable either. Often the knock-offs or "inspired-by" furniture come from major stores. You aren't buying it in a back alleyway off Chinatown.

It's like an original Chanel quilted purse is $3-4K (minimum) and the Miu Miu or Marc Jacob "Chanel-inspired" quilted purses go for $1.5K to $2K. Is it wrong to get a Miu Miu handbag? It is a luxury brand too. You aren't supporting terrorism or organized crime unless you think LVMH and Prada (parent companies of Marc Jacobs and Miu Miu respectively) should be illegal. But then, Chanel should be illegal too...

Plus there is a reason stuff like handbags or furniture does not qualify for copyright or patent. A chair is still a chair and a bag is still a bag. Can you imagine if a Parson's table had a copyright? Or a Prada nylon backpack held a copyright? Your child's plain nylon sack would include a fee to Prada.

It's a good idea for those costco-sized bottles that don't look good on a dresser or in a bathtub.

I think guests who are so picky they need to know what brand of sunblock you provided them will bring their own stuff. If they care that much about what they put on their skin, even if you gave them a bottle of coppertone, they probably will shudder or something.
