^^ Or maybe a month or two while they save up for a real (still tiny, but not that tiny) apartment.

I lucked out on an amazing 32-square-meter apartment just a four-minute train ride from Shibuya for $700 a month and never wanted to let it go. Alas, the lease was only good for a year.

Pink is gorgeous! Just not the icky Barbie shade of pink.

looseleaf, I picked up that book on a whim and loved it as well. Haven't seen the movie, but I will have to check it out.

I pinned the pink version of that flower phone cover a while back. Here it is (or something very similar):

KristinaKS, I have that gadget and use it a lot for baby food, hummus, bread crumbs and all that fun stuff. It hasn't let me down yet! And it's cute enough to leave out on my countertop, although it does feel kind of cheap.

On a side note, someone told me that I could also use it to grind coffee beans, but I haven't been brave enough to try that yet.

A few ideas for ecofriendly alternatives:

- books
- homemade bookmark
- homemade treat
- little wooden toys or trinkets from the thrift store (you'd probably have to search well in advance)
- DIY felt foods/toys
- playing cards

I'd love to hear any other ideas. We'll be celebrating our little one's first Easter this year too (well second -- she was born last Easter).

Wow, some of these comments are incredibly critical of people who are merely trying to bring child safety to the forefront. I'd find it fascinating, if it wasn't so disturbing that you feel the need to attack others for raising a valid point that could in fact save a child's life. That's "annoying" and "stupid"? Jeez.

In regards to the whole "my two children survived with bumpers" and "plenty of kids are alive who slept in cribs with bumper pads," there are many babies who don't survive and are suffocated in their cribs. Worst argument ever. Why anyone -- and I'm not saying this mother is doing it, because I don't know anything about her personally -- who is aware of the dangers would risk that for aesthetic reasons is beyond me. What is it going to take for this to become as unacceptable as riding in the front seat of a car cradling a baby in your arms?

And yes, AT is centered around design and decor but that does intersect frequently with functionality and safety. To say this isn't the place to bring that up is silly; it's exactly the right place to educate (and inspire) others, in my opinion.

I love the elephant bookends! This also inspires me to use the gilded bamboo frames that I picked up from the thrift store and shoved into storage.

YTess, I am guessing that it is U-shaped and the cover is just pulled taut. Ours does that too before we use it after each washing.

And Kate, I agree! I wonder why so many parents are still buying and using bumpers -- and why they're still being manufactured. I'd rather risk a little bruise (my 10-month-old got her leg stuck between the bars for the first time last week) than something much worse.

I really thought this same thing was posted last week with Marilyn Monroe on the main photo. At any rate, I have to admit that seeing that Gregory Peck had such an ordinary-looking wife gave me funny -- and very unreasonable -- feelings. Sigh.

My daughter and I love a lot of the books that have been mentioned, and there are many that I haven't heard of and will check out. We get most of our books from the thrift store, which I highly recommend, especially for easy-to-clean board books and vintage treasures.

Three titles that I would add to the list are:

- When the World is Ready for Bed (so calming)
- Haiku Baby (adorable illustrations and the kanji are a great little bonus for my half-Japanese baby)
- In My Tree and others in that series (the little finger puppets and cut-out pages are always a hit)

myurbanelife, it almost sounds like you moved into my old apartment! My sister came over one afternoon and practically got a contact buzz from the sidewalk. I was pregnant at the time, so that situation -- while a dream for many twentysomethings -- was really not cool.

I hope the author is reading the comments, because I see many people have pinned this and will likely try to replicate it, even though it is probably a hazard to their children's health. I wish AT would think more thoroughly about the ideas that it is promoting.
