I write/edit a blog where we post recipes inspired by books (like this one: http://www.paperplatesblog.com/2012/06/25/strawberry-tart-recipe/) and we try to include a little information about why the recipe is related to the book in the "headnote." We're still trying to figure out the right intro-to-recipe ratio, but I think a short/medium intro is a good way for the writer to share why they're posting that specific recipe. Too long and I lose interest. I am there for the recipe, after all.
