Well this post is interesting to me because I always thought hand washing sterilized better than the dishwasher. Maybe I was misinformed. However, I have a pretty unbias opinion about either way of washing dishes. We have a brand new dishwasher and up until recently I washed all my daughters bottles by hand- then got lazy and popped them in the dishwasher. I found that the nipples would come out with a residue so I kept steaming and hand washing those. I don't think its too ridiculous, now that I know this I will for sure put things in the dishwasher for good measure. Maybe I'm a little overboard about germs, but I'm always cutting raw chicken and worry about cross contaminating with the babys things. I like to pre wash by hand then stick the dishes in the dishwasher otherwise it still leaves crap on it. I made a few pies the other day and made a meringue in a bowl (raw egg whites) then just rinsed it a little and used the same bowl to make whipped cream. All I could think about after was cross contamination. But Lo and behold it was no big deal. Hand Washing Versus the Dishwasher Real Simple |
