I have to agree with the absolute loving of the green kitchen. My kitchen in my new rental is so small and depressing despite my efforts to cheer it up (first order of business was unscrewing the huge buzzing fluorescent overhead lights and setting up some little lamps, but now it's like a cave :\ ) I wish I could paint my walls bright colors but I never know how long I'm going to be in a place so it doesn't seem worth the time if I'm staying less than a year. 10 Ways to Customize a Rental |

@A BIT OF BROOKLYN, might i suggest a warm slab of wood on top instead of stone, for your bedroom? I think that could be really beautiful and warm enough for a bedroom Use Stone To Top Off Your Old Filing Cabinets Better Homes and Gardens |

It looks like it was probably intended for a cross or something to go there. Looks like a little altar. I would definitely go with the chalkboard paint and put chalk on the ledge and either install some cool wall hooks by it or put a hall tree by it, and maybe a little bench underneath it for putting shoes under or for kids to stand on to write on the chalk board? I looked at this a month ago when it was first posted and every time I pass by it on AT i still love it so much. It's totally my ideal living room. I love different shades of primary colors like that. Carolyn's Happy Tribal Modern Dream Living Room |

I have become a very "if you want it done right you have to do it yourself" type of person. Usually what I want done doesn't get done at all and something being done sub-par makes me cringe. Usually this applies to cleaning. This is part of why I just moved into a one bedroom where I will be living alone for the first time and so far I'm loving it. It's so quiet. And I don't have to clean up after anyone, or reclean something someone already cleaned. Why Do So Many Americans Live Alone? The New Yorker |

My boyfriend is definitely more of the "five guitars and no furniture" type, but he does have a good appreciation for style and design and has a nice minimalist style that I can appreciate. I like that he can at least have an opinion and hold a conversation about it rather than just saying he doesn't care. If he had more money he would probably have room for his guitars AND some nice furniture... Would You Date Someone if You Really Dislike Their Style? |

I think a light blue color could look interesting on the cabinets. Or kind of a taupe color for something more edgy? Minimize Paneled Look in Old Cabinet Doors? Good Questions |

Have any of you who rent ever tried this using command strips (the heavy duty velcro kind for hanging frames and such) to hang the pegboard instead of drilling into the walls? You know- less patching and painting when you move out? Do you think it would hold enough weight or is that stupid? Pegboards in the Kitchen |

I scored a 4... slightly disappointed, as I am a graphic design student who should be very sensitive to colors displayed on a monitor... oh well. It was the teal range that got me. My eyes are killing me now. Take the Test: How Well Do You See Color? |
