In regards to magazines, I downloaded the Zinio app onto my ipad. They have a huge selection of magazines. I no longer buy non e magazines. It is amazing how much less clutter I have in the house. Why I'm Ditching an E-Reader for the New iPad |

Yes, the health concerns with the trailers are worrisome...but at least they have running water, flush toilets etc. And I do think as much as I like "things", I agree with La Loca that we do get too caught up in what we own. There are worse things than living in a trailer. I think the fact that we get so impassioned about this subject might have something to do with the fact that this is a site devoted basically to decorating and lifestyle. I only bring black and white clothes. It's amazing how long you can go on that combination. Also, I don't care how long I'm going to be gone, if I can't carry it, I don't want it. It's pretty rare you go somewhere they don't have affordable shops, and worse case scenerio, go out an buy what you need and ship it home or donate it to a Goodwill..... I've read that taking used carpet and laying it down also works, and you don't have to worry about it ripping and blowing away. I agree about the Roundup....I'd rather have the weeds. Not sure about any toxic run off from the carpet. Apartment Therapy San Francisco | Look!: A Non Toxic Way to Kill Weeds |

This reminds me of something I saw once years ago on a show on Swedish homes...a recessed area in the entranceway floor with a removable plastic liner or tub fitted in and on top of it a decorative metal grate, similar in size to the mat shown here...flush with the surrounding floor. To clean you simply picked up the grate and emptied the removable tub/liner. Great for places where you track in snow and grit...also a good place to leave boots to dry out.
