Perhaps you could uninstall the bars and use a sliding window stopper. These are easy to install yourself and allows the window to be opened as far as is deemed safe ie; not wide enough for a child to squeeze through, but stops the window from being opened any further. I would get a wider curtain rod and put up some beautiful linen curtains for a fresh breezy look (and privacy at night). Ikea have some lovely ones at a ridiculously low price. That old kitchen was so dated- how could anyone seriously say it looked great?? The after is so beautiful. I can't believe some of the judgemental comments regarding the owners decision to remodel. Sure, I love it when I come across posts on thrifty remodels / repurposing etc, but the old kitchen was donated anyway. The after is amazing- who wouldn't want to cook in that lovely space?! The first thing I do when I rise in the morning is put a load of laundry on ( I do two loads a day). After breakfast and school drop off, the laundry is ready to hang on the line ( we only use our dryer if its absolutely necessary ). For some reason, once the laundry is taken care of, I don't feel so overwhelmed and can tackle the other daily essentials. I put the radio on nice and loud and dedicate forty minutes to the chores. I feel very lucky to have the luxury of time. Those who work outside the home have to find time whenever they can. How To Clean Your House in 20 Minutes a Day for 30 Days |

Pipped at the post on a mid century gem with stone fireplace, underground sauna(!) All on a 1500 sq m block in a quiet street backing onto native bushland. Just waiting for some predictable gasps of horror from the usual suspects regarding the -shock! horror!- painted over wood. It looks divine to me. Very scandi, very chic. Better than dark, drab original by a mile. :) Before & After: Christine's Edwardian Staircase Restoration |

Seriously, whats with people getting upset over painted over wood? That panelling looked so dated! And those bricks were drab and old fashioned - the white is fresh and modern. Not everyone wants to live in a time warp. Great job on this long overdue makeover. Before & After: Home Theater Den Renovation Reddit |

....and my gut tells me that youre pretty set on cork flooring so go for it! I have kids and a dog and here in Australia baltic pine floors are the norm in pre 1920's era houses. When we first polished ours they looked lovely- all light blonde and glossy. Six years later, they have yellowed, turned dull and have a billion sctatches and dents. To have them repolished means removing all our belongings and moving out of the house for a week (not an option!). I guess my point is that cork is a way more practical option. Im not sure about the aesthetics, but hey, to each their own. And if its comfortable, low maintenance and non allergenic then youre onto a winner. Its insulating properties are great too.Whatever choice you make, enjoy your lovely new abode. :) Bamboo, Cork, or Wood Flooring for (Future) Dog Owners? Good Questions |
